Recently, February’s New York Fashion Week Men’s Fall/Winter 2016 presentations hosted the upcoming collection of pieces by Eidos, the passion project – turned brand, of Anotonio Ciongoli, the creative director. In partnership with ISAIA, but with their own separate identity, Eidos came to fruition three years ago, launching a full menswear collection of New York City designed, Italian manufactured pieces.
With the specific vision of creating a fusion between American heritage sportswear, and classic, tailored pieces, as he found the former to be overdone in the fashion world, Ciongoli approached ISAIA three years ago in order to produce a both rugged, yet refined, elegant product. Inspired by films such as: Casablanca, Ciongoli’s mission is to construct pieces that fuse the softness and silhouette of the Neapolitan suit, with the materials of a harsher nature, like heavy twill, a clear nod to the inspiration he also derives from English fashion culture.
The presentation in SoHo, NYC, of the A/W 2016 collection, certainly lived up to the high standards of the Eidos brand’s aesthetic. As the media spectators milled around the room, observing and photographing the row of male models adorned in Eidos latest pieces, one could not only easily observe the high level of detail and specialty Italian craftsmanship that went into the construction of the collection, but also the story of classical European culture Ciongoli bases them around each time. With mostly neutral, muted colors used, along with the variances in texture, each unique silhouette cut a refined and distinguished, yet quite tough, look all at once. As one of the official Eidos slogans reads “Eidos is the essence of something’s being — its idealized form — it’s soul,” which everyone with a passion for fashion knows to be true, as it is emulated through whatever garment combination one decides to wear, the collection was the perfect expression of the innermost aspects of being a human. The ruggedness, the strength, the power, in addition to the vulnerability, the beauty, the refinedness, the classical nature – things that speak to the soul.
