The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or better known as ASPCA® are preparing to honor actress and humanitarian Drew Barrymore.
The annual ASPCA Bergh Ball, set to happen on April 14 at The Plaza Hotel in NYC will be celebrating its 150th anniversary. The black-tie gala will be awarding Barrymore best known for her films including The Wedding Singer, Ever After, Charlie’s Angels and E.T. with the ASPCA Compassion Award.
The ASPCA Compassion Award is used to recognized individuals in entertainment and the arts who have made an outstanding contribution to animal welfare in the United States. These artists have used their talents and prominence to bring awareness to this huge issue and have helped vulnerable homeless animals and have worked to protect and save their lives.
“This gathering of animal welfare champions exemplifies the high level of compassion and commitment that inspired Henry Bergh to create the ASPCA in 1866 – a dedication that continues to drive our life-saving work around the country” said Matt Bershadker, president and CEO of the ASPCA.
The theme of this year’s event is “Round of A-Paws for 150 Years” and will be hosted by two-time Tony Award winner Nathan Lane. Business woman, author and TV personality Martha Stewart will present the award to Barrymore with ASPCA President and CEO Matt Bershadker and the evening will be DJ’ed by Grammy Award winner Mark Ronson.
The night will also consist of an auction fundraiser hosted by C. Hugh Hildesly, which will feature several high-end items and experiences. These items will include a personalized voicemail recording from Lena Dunham, a personal training session from Bob Harper, a shopping spree and lunch date with Designer Nicole Miller, two tickets to Marina Abramovic’s 70th birthday dinner at the Guggenheim and four tickets to Billy Joel’s sold out concert at Madison Square Garden.
