Influencing more than music since their rise in 2001, The Diplomats’ (Dipset’s) New York swagger has made fashion statements that still reverberate today. While it was the groups Harlem twang and lyrical gifts that drew fans in, it was their styling of oversized jerseys, long necklaces, bandanas and Cam’ ron’s pink fur coat that made them trendsetters.
It was only fitting that OG members Jim Jones and Juelz Santana celebrated Dipset’s collaboration with Vintage Frames Company during New York Fashion Week.
The fashion and Hip- Hop community, including musicians Fabolous, KidSuper and ASAP Ferg, gathered at the Lower East Side’s beloved concept store, ESSX, on September 10 to get first looks at the classic black frames adorned with a gold version of the Dipset eagle logo fans know and love.
The atmosphere buzzed with loud chatter that competed against the blaring of Dipset tracks that DJ Statik Selektah spun – a mix of oldies but goodies. Martell- sponsored drinks kept the vibes going all night as attendees eagerly awaited the Dipset performance that would close the night.
Since their start in 2008, Vintage Frames Company (VFC) managed to accumulate the largest designer eyewear collection ever. With styles spanning over six decades, VFC dedicated 20 years to crafting a super fly pair of shades with and in honor of Dipset, paying homage to the group’s ability to blend their culture with luxury before it was common.
Displayed in a glass case at the center of the futuristic shop surrounded by the likes of Marni, Acne Studios and more; VFC frames fit right into the pieces ESSX is known for curating. Housing known and up and coming streetwear brands since 2023, ESSX will be one of several locations where The Diplomat’s shades will be available for purchase at $250 USD a pop. Other retailers include KITH, CNCPTS and more, ensuring Dipset’s legacy reaches a new generation of fans and collectors.
