Chris O’Dowd and Gabrielle Dennis star in the new Apple TV+ series The Big Door Prize created by David West Reed.
The show is based on M.O. Walsh’s novel of the same name and focuses on a town that is forever changed by a mysterious machine. Residents in the small town of Deerfield discover a Morpho machine that has the ability to tap into their secret hopes and dreams. As a society, most people question their purpose in life and fixate on unfulfilled achievements. This machine helps this town reevaluate the current path of their lives and helps them reconnect with their secret desires. As each episode progresses, viewers will see how this machine causes a variety of problems for businesses and the survival of the overall town.
The series follows the couple Dusty Hubbard and Cass Hubbard, played by O’Dowd and Dennis, who have lived a relatively safe, uncomplicated life until this machine turns Deerfield upside down. This 10-episode series hones in on questions about fulfillment, purpose, professional calling, and career goals and creates a reality where those answers are provided with help from this machine. The Big Prize Door incorporates comedic elements that allow the show to flow and help guide the overall concept. The Knockturnal spoke with O’Dowd, Dennis, and Reed about the show and what they hope viewers will take away from it.
The Big Door Prize will be released on Apple TV+ on March 29th.
