Thursday night, Creative Time hosted their annual gala, co-chaired by Jon Neidich and Kate Young, honoring artist Jenny Holzer at Skylight at Vesey in New York.
Creative Time is a non-profit organization based in New York, aimed to stimulate and change current debates and issues affecting our society today, offering a stage for artists to amplify their voices in a variety of platforms such as the Creative Time Summit international conference which converts works and ideas into inspiration and dialogue through public art. The 2019 Creative Time Annual Gala brought together guests from disciplines of music, art, fashion and philanthropy to fundraise and celebrate Jenny Holzer’s recent exhibition, VIGIL, a series of light projections addressing gun violence at Rockefeller Center in New York City.
The evening began with cocktails leading into a candle-lit three course meal by Yann Nury, before additional guests entered through the futuristic violet-lit entryway to the glamorous afterparty designed by Van Wyck & Van Wyck, with live music by DJ Chances With Wolves. In addition to an open bar featuring drinks by Absolut Elyx, guests were treated to late night bites from Parm while mingling and dancing in the former trading home of the New York Mercantile Exchange which encompasses 30,000 square feet of open space; the venue was decorated with lush foliage, geometric neon lit structures, and plush furniture.
Notable attendees included Waris Ahluwalia, Laurie Anderson, Danny Baez, Jenny Holzer, Shaun Leonardo, Eva LeWitt, Jill Magid, Duke Riley, Taryn Simon, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Chloe Wise, Kennedy Yanko, Sofia Coppola, Mark Ronson, Nicholas Braun, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Rachel Weisz.
