Colgate hosted this year’s Essence magazine 2018 Best in Black Beauty Awards. The event kicked off with Julee Wilson, fashion and beauty director at Essence, moderating the Colgate beauty conversation with actresses Naturi Naughton and Ryan Destiny.
Essence magazine has announced this year’s picks for their Best in Black Beauty Awards with Colgate’s new Platinum Stain-Less White toothpaste as one of the top winners. Colgate ambassador and actress Naturi Naughton from Power joined actress Ryan Destiny from Star as well as fashion and beauty director for Essence magazine, Julee Wilson, for a pow wow on some of their personal beauty regimens.
“I take Colgate Optic White Stain-Less White toothpaste everywhere with me”, said Naturi Naughton. “I’m on camera a lot, so it is important to me to always know my smile will be white no matter what I eat or drink.” Naughton also shared that some of her most coveted beauty tips are rest and water. “Sometimes you just have to go to bed and drink some water,” shared Naughton.
Ryan Destiny also shared some of her beauty secrets. Destiny shared that while she moisturizes with aloe vera gel, one of her most “crucial” steps to helping her skin stay camera ready is sunscreen.
Following the Colgate beauty conversation, Colgate scientists demonstrated to the audience how the new award-winning Platinum Stain-Less White toothpaste worked. The demonstration consisted of two red wine stained sand dollars, competitor leading whitening toothpaste, and the Colgate Platinum Stain-Less White toothpaste. During the demonstration one sand dollar was brushed with Colgate and the other with the competitors whitening toothpaste; both were brushed for two minutes which is the Colgate scientist recommended time for brushing your teeth.
The fun really began when guests were led onto the showroom floor to dance, take photo booth style pictures, and take look at all of 2018’s Best in Black Beauty Award winners. While partying to DJ Olivia Dope’s musical selections, guests had the opportunity to select full-size beauty products off of the winning roaster. Alongside a full tube of the new Colgate Platinum Stain-Less toothpaste products like Farsali Jelly Beam Illuminator ($40), Lilah B. Flawless Finish Foundation ($48), Peter Thomas Roth Acne-Clear Invisible Dots ($30) and many more were gifted to the invited guests. On top of our own selections of Best in Black Beauty award-winning products to take home, a stylish purple Essence tote was generously filled with various beauty product to sample.
