What better artist to perform during WorldPride than the gay messiah Charli XCX?
On Thursday, June 27th, Artists Den hosted a special WorldPride edition of their concert series, Live from the Artists Den. This series aims to showcase extraordinary musical talent that is around today and for this concert, platinum selling artist, Charli XCX took the stage at The Rooftop at Pier 17. This event, titled “Charli XCX: Live from the Artists Den WorldPride,” is one that is set to air live and showcase the LGBTQ community.
This event marked the first time that Charli XCX performed new music ever since she announced the date in which her third studio album is going to be released. This third album has been long awaited by fans as Charli has constantly been teasing new music and a new album in the past.
Some of the highlights from this is night was that Charli performed some new songs from her album, two of which were ‘White Mercedes’ and ‘Gone’ featuring Christine and the Queens. To give a little insight on these two new songs, ‘White Mercedes’ is this ballad type song that interestingly pairs with Charli’s signature electronic/synth production. This song really showcases Charli’s vocal range, even though she uses her typical autotuned microphone. ‘Gone’ is more of an upbeat song that has a little bit of a dance vibe to it. Charli said as a preface that this song was one of her favorites to create and fans definitely felt a great energy come from Charli as she performed it.
Along with her new songs, she also played some of her hits. She started off this night with the intro of her song ‘Track 10’ playing and it slowly transitioned into her latest release of ‘Blame It On Your Love’ featuring Lizzo. Charli has this amazing ability of hyping up any crowd and even with this first song, fans were dancing and singing along to it. It was especially fun when Charli made everyone sing the chorus with her and it was pretty incredible how everyone was all in sync singing along. She then transitioned into one of the songs that made her a household name being ‘I Love It.’ As soon as she started this song, the audience went wild and sang along to every word. Even with this being as old as it is, it still felt fresh, fun, and everyone knew every word. And what would a Charli XCX concert be if she didn’t play her hit song ‘Vroom Vroom’ and dedicate to every gay guy who can’t drive. This song really bumped up the energy. As soon as the intro started playing, screams of excitement echoed the arena. This was one of the songs that everyone was waiting for and will forever be one of Chari’s classics. She played other hit songs of hers such as ‘Boys,’ ‘1999,’ and ‘Boom Clap.’
Charli has a great stage presence and definitely has a lot of fun on stage. Her energy was infectious and had every single audience member dancing and singing along. And from the new songs that she performed, fans should be excited for her upcoming album as it will definitely be a crowd pleaser.
