Dr. Evan Antin teamed up with Swiffer to share first time pet owner tips that will help you spend more time playing with your new pet and less time cleaning up behind them!

Tips to Tackle the Adulting Moments of First Time Pet Parents

*Muddy paws are no fun!

You can help prevent muddy paws in your home with a bit of grooming. Not only does grooming help prevent a dirty situation, it bonds a pet and pet owner.
Trim the hair around your pup’s paws regularly as it prevents the dirt and mud from clumping to his feet.
Keep a spray bottle of water and a towel by the door so you can gently remove excess dirt from your pet’s paws before they come inside.
However, muddy paws happen. When it does, you can clean up your space by using a product like Swiffer WetJet to quickly and safely rid your floors of prints.
*Be prepared to clean all of your pet’s essentials, even the ones you didn’t think needed to be cleaned!
Choose a bed with a removable fabric cover and be sure to wash the cover and the bed base with cold water and pet-safe detergent. Easy adulting hack – slightly dampen a rubber glove to remove fur and dander from fabric.
A stinky collar can ruin you and your pet’s fun. Soak the collar in cold water for about 15 minutes to extract the dirt and grime.
Get new collar name tags every year. The phone number wears down over time and you want to make sure that can be read clearly!
Clean their food and water bowls once a week by hand with light pet safe soap.

*Safety first. In the spring, I make sure to restock my pet’s first aid kit since I know we will be spending more time outside as the weather warms!
Evan’s dog Henry loves to play fetch, which can be hard on his paws at times, so he keeps hydrogen peroxide and antibacterial ointment in the pup’s first aid kit at all times. Whichever type of pet you choose, prepare your home with easy to use clean -up tools – so you can spend less time cleaning and more time playing!
