Just when a married couple in their 30s were starting to feel comfortable with their average, simple lives, in comes an unexpected house guest that just might shake things up a bit!
Happy Together starring Damon Wayans Jr [Jake] and Amber Stevens West [Claire] follows the married couple as they reconnect with their younger, cooler and at times, shameless selves. Jake, an accountant and his wife Claire, a bar and restaurant designer are quite happy together as they enjoy nights watching tv on the couch and creating elaborate outgoing voicemail messages. Their ordinary life is disrupted when Jake’s client, Cooper James, a music superstar seeks refuge at their home to avoid paparazzi after his high profile break up with his girlfriend. While Cooper seems to take to his new, ordinary suburban life, Jake and Claire struggle to keep up with the fast paced lifestyle of their young and exuberant house guest. The three discover that a mix of ordinary and extraordinary just might be the perfect combination.
On Wednesday, September 12, 2018, CBS’ Happy Together was celebrated at The Paley Center for Media’s 12th Annual PaleyFest Fall TV Previews. The entire cast and executive producers sat down for a panel discussion to delve a little deeper into the show. Happy Together was actually inspired by events that took place in executive producer’s Ben Winston’s life. The dashingly handsome pop star, Harry Styles formerly in music group One Direction was living in Winston’s attic for almost two years without being discovered. Styles needed a break from the limelight and decided to seek sanctuary in Winston’s home. “I can’t say that everything in the show is exactly what happened in real life because that would’ve made it too much about Harry [Styles]. While certain events did happen, we wanted to focus more on the positives of a happy marriage. TV shows so often depict marriage as something that is miserable but here we’re showing you that if you marry your best friend, you can actually grow and learn together while having fun,” Winston explains.
Felix Mallard who plays Cooper James addressed the love and some hate he has received for playing Harry [Styles]. “Many One Direction fans are fanatics of Harry’s [Styles] and don’t think I should be sharing his life experiences, however I’ve mostly received support and genuine excitement for the show. I can’t wait until everyone sees it because I do believe they’re going to love it,” Mallard says.
Of course a question on many people’s minds was, will there be a Wayans family cameo? Damon Wayans Jr. let us know that we can be expecting a cameo with his father, Damon Wayans which is sure to be hilarious!
Happy Together premieres on Monday, Oct. 1 on CBS at 8:30/7:30pm central!
