Band of Robbers is a thrilling film filled with the perfect balance of bromance, comedy and growth.
Tom Sawyer, the main character, takes us with him on his search for a treasure. Along with his accomplice and best friend, Huck Finn, we see how these two characters fight to keep their friendship working after so many years. We are first introduced to a flashback of the duo on their childhood adventures. We see that Tom has always been the one who protects and cares for Huck. We are then transported to the present, where we see their current situation. Tom has become a cop, and Huck has gotten out of jail yet again due to his continuous attempts to look for the treasure. As a welcome back party, Tom organized a reunion of the gang which consists of Tom, Huck, Joe Harper and Ben Rogers. The four take on the task of finding what seemed to be a mythological treasure belonging to a pirate and take on the name of Band of Robbers.

As the movie goes on, we are filled with laughter, anxiousness and engagement. This film is delightful in all aspects of filmmaking. The characters created by actors Adam Nee (Tom), Kyle Gallner (Huck), Matthew Gray Gubler (Joe) and Hannibal Burger (Ben) are not only extremely entertaining and human, but they compliment each other really well allowing the film to have a stupendous dynamic. We also get to see known actors such as Melissa Benoist, the love interest of Tom, Eric Christian Olsen, who plays Tom’s brother, and Stephen Lang who gives us an amazing performance as the villain. The soundtrack and cinematography are also very pleasing, from the shots to the landscapes, giving the film a little bit of that je ne sais quoi that Wes Anderson movies have.

The story of Tom Sawyer has been told since 1876, when it was written by Mark Twain. This movie however takes the story to another level, giving the audience entertainment, elements of surprise, amazing performances, and allows us to fall in love and have compassion for these characters, as absurd as they may seem to be.

Tom Sawyer says that he longs to be the type of person who is going to be remembered. He wants to achieve something big, something memorable and that is exactly what this movie did for me. It is definitely worth the watch.
