Hannah Murray, MAC Cosmetics’ lead makeup designer, spills the details on the look for John Galliano’s show at Paris Fashion Week. Check it out!
Can you talk a little bit about the makeup look for John Galliano’s show?
Hannah Murray: They wanted cool and easy girls because there are quite a few masculine military coats but then there are those amazing Galliano silk dresses. We tried to create a balance by bringing a little bit of masculinity to the girls but still having them be women. For Galliano’s show the emphasis is on sex rather than romanticism.
How did you portray sex in their face with the makeup?
Hannah Murray: Today, it is all about their skin. The idea is to keep them cool and effortless but a little bit of sexy. We are going for more of a sweaty skin. Therefore, we are spending the time really prepping the skin, by using MAC’s newest Mineralized Volcanic Ash Exfoliator, on everyone. This product really brings the blood to the surface, and makes the skin squeaky clean. Then we are using an oil and a cream to truly nourish the skin. After the exfoliator we use a concealer, instead of a foundation, where necessary, mainly because the concealer will not spread.
Hannah Murray: Then we apply the MAC Paramount Lipstick, mixed with a little face gloss to sheer it out and also to make the lips look a bit weathered. Instead of using a regular highlighter, we are using Clear Lip Gloss, to highlight the cheek bones, down the nose, on the eye lid, and then a brush through the brows so they look quite glossy. This unusual type of highlighter makes them look, juicy, sweaty, and sexy. There is no mascara, but rather here at the John Galliano, show the emphasis is on texture.
