Backstage Beauty Report: Milly by Michelle Smith

We went backstage with TRESemmé at the Milly by Michelle Smith show to see how the hairstyles for this show were created.

The theme for the hair look was effortless to match the ease of the gowns and updated activewear that came down the runway. This look is super simple and so wearable that anyone will be able to achieve it.

TRESemmé’s New York Fashion Week stylist, Odile Gilbert starts by washing the hair with TRESemmé Thick & Full Shampoo and Conditioner to create a voluminous foundation for him to work with. He then parts the hair in the center and uses a small amount of  TRESemmé Thick & Full Thickening Balm to give hair a bit of texture and then a rough blow dry. Gilbert used a 3.5 inch curling iron to create some natural waves for the look. The goal is to make sure it looks a little like tousled curls that are not perfect. He sprays some TRESemmé Volumizing Dry Shampoo on the roots to enhance the hair’s natural texture and create a little bit of volume at the root. He then used his fingers to comb through and separate the curls he created. “The key to any ‘I just woke up like this’ look is using your fingertips to create natural texture,” Gilbert says. The last order of business is to pull it into a low ponytail at the nape of the neck and lock it in with a generous spray (or two) of  TRESemmé Compressed Micro-Mist Hair Spray Hold Level 3: Boost  to make sure the look lasts all day.

For girls who sported shorter hair, Gilbert modified the look by using the same products and styling processes as the ponytail look, but instead, pull the natural short curls behind the ears. This version of the look still provides the easy and effortless chic look to accompany the clothes without looking too glamorous.
