Adorned with 3000 flowers hanging from the ceiling, the Lela Rose SS 2016 presentation epitomized spring fashion.

Held at the Gallery at the Skylight at Clarkson Sq, the presentation was complimented by thousands of flowers hanging from the ceiling. In true Lela Rose fashion, the Spring 2016 collection included florals, pastels and delicate pops of color. The collection also included metallic accents mirrored in the beauty as you’ll see backstage. While the collection featured classically feminine silhouettes it also included a variety of structured, broader and more masculine silhouettes adding an androgynous element to some pieces. We went backstage to get an insight on how the show came together with lead makeup, nails, and hair.
[slideshow]Lead makeup artist Romy Soleimani from Beauty.com was using Kevyn Acoin and Murad products. Soleimani took inspiration from the collection’s color palette, while adding an edge to the overall look of the models. She said, “the look is this very fine tight lined liquid liner that’s like a little cat [eye] and there’s no mascara so we want this almost trompe l’oeil eye where it just traces the whole entire eye all the way around into a little cat. The effect is sharp and gives a little bit of toughness to the a lot of the sweetness that’s in the clothing. There’s a lot of pastels and some of the dresses have this very fine black line, so I thought it would be cool to add that to the eyes. Then there’s some rose gold elements and we did some rose gold highlights on the eye and upper cheekbone. The lips have just a drop of a shimmery pink. Full brush bow with no mascara and I think the no mascara really makes it look modern and kind of fresh and little bit cooler than kind of a glammy cat eye. We’re matting the T-zone and using Murad products today.”
Lead hair stylist James Pecis for Beauty.com was using Alternate Haircare products and balanced the femininity of the collection by adding tomboyish,messy hair. “The collection is super feminine and super beautiful with gowns so we wanted to toughen it up a little bit and make it boyish so they all have a little bit of a quip, hair popped up to the side and to add texture we’re tying some knots in the back so it doesn’t look too ‘madame’ or anything. To get this we’re prepping it with a root-boost life through the hair and blow dry it in and add mouse around the hair line. Then through the back section we’re making a little Brillo pad with a back comb and putting hairspray right on top of it…If you have the right texture it’s gonna help hold it together.”
Lead nail artist Nonie Creme was using Colour Prevails and filled us in on the nail art and trends soon to dominate 2016. Creme said, “We started with a rose gold called “Date Night” by Colour Prevails and we actually put a little bit of clear nail polish into it to water it down and then we went in with a very heavy metallic silver and did our kind of ombre moment and we finished up with a chrome. It’s basically this gradation of metallics starting off with a soft sparkle and moving into a metallic and then finishing as a chrome and I think that’s a nice story in general for what’s going to happen in nail trends for 2016. We’re gonna start summer with sheer-ish metallics with a little sparkle, but not glitter. Then as we move into winter we’ll move into more traditional metallics and jewel-toned metallics- I want to see a red, I want to see a sapphire, I want to see an Emerald green, all metallic and by the time we hit full stride, Holiday 2016, chrome, major chrome.We really were focused on the clothes in this show, when you see the show you’ll see a smattering of rose gold florals and silver florals.”
