Richard Kavanagh, Cutler/Redken’s lead hair designer, spills the details on the look for Cynthia Rowley‘s Presentation at New York Fashion Week S/S ’16 . Check it out!
Can you talk about the inspiration for the look?
Richard Kavanagh: Sure! The inspiration is really interesting actually, in seasons past fashion has always dictated a trend or dictated a look. We decide who the woman is, and then we create a look; however this season is really different, it’s almost turning that idea on it’s head. The inspiration really comes from the individual. Each individual girl has her own look. Basically we are looking at what the girls are wearing, we are looking at them, and we create a look based on that.

You know imagine if you are walking down the street and a girl walks by and you think “woah she looks cool”. That girl has that magic little something about her. Something extra that makes her not blend in. That is really the inspiration. Each girl will have something different.

How does the look of the hair connect to the theme of the show?
Richard Kavanagh: Cynthia Rowley’s brand has a very strong aesthetic. There are alot of embellishments. There’s alot of colors and a lot of individuality in each of the look themselves, so that really suites what we are doing with the look.
What products are you using today?
Richard Kavanagh: Because we are doing multiple different looks there isn’t just one key product. Some of the products we are using are: Fashion Waves by Redken, Pillow Proof Dy Shampoo, and Triple Take (a strong hold hairspray). I think Fashion Waves is one of the most versatile products right now, you can use it as a texture, and a volumizer. You can use it to tame frizz, it has a multitude of different uses.
