Billy Reid served up tons of texture and neutrals in his Spring ’16 Men’s Fashion Week show at Art Beam.
With the help of AXE’s new hair styling products, the men of today donned the perfect undone and textured hair to match the sleekness of each look. Reid’s collection showcased a more relaxed sophistication as the fabrics flowed with no indication of being too constrictive. Overall the collection was sharp and is sure to be a hit!

How would you describe today’s looks?
Billy’s whole collection is a lot more loose and fluid, so the [hair] looks really needed to reflect that without taking over the show. Just like all the different textiles he’s working with, we have so many different textures of hair coming in tonight and we don’t want to make it anything it’s not already. Working with the AXE Natural Hair Look paste is more about controlling natural texture versus making it something it’s not. We are working with the natural texture on slightly damp hair, taking about a quarter size [of Axe styling paste] mixing it in our hands and raking it in evenly, for even distribution. At that point, you’re either pushing or pulling it and sweeping it in to place, however the natural movement wants to go. With that product it’s more control than a sticky hold. Anyone with a more unruly or tough texture, we are just finishing off with a little bit of messy paste with the AXE line.

What would you consider the “classic man’s” hairstyle as being?
–
It can be so subjective because you’re thinking about what decade do we consider classic? I think a lot of times it comes down to something that guys own versus something that is over thought and over done. We are definitely in a period where men are embracing grooming in a different way than ever. Authenticity comes through in different ways every decade; and it’ll be fun to see what the classic mans look will be 10 years from now!

What techniques are you using to achieve todays looks?
–
We are going in with some salt spray, saturating that a bit and then diffusing that so the salt spray will help pull out the natural texture. Then we are going over it with the [AXE] Natural Look; it’s a light cream that helps give finish and separation to the ends. It’s not waxy or sticky but really creamy and has more of a matte finish. So you won’t get wet and piecey ends.

How would you describe the looks in three words?
–
Simple, beachy and natural.

What is the hairstyle of todays classic man?
–
Right now, there’s a lot of shortness on the sides and back but almost 50’s on the top. Personally, I think natural hair is nice, because you can always achieve that from today until 20 years down the road because you will still have your natural hair texture.

Which AXE product is your favorite?
–
I would have to say the Salt Spray! I really like the salt spray to get a nice texture. Even if your hair is blown out straight and you want to add a little bounce and movement to get the curls back out, the salt spray always works good.
