On The Scene: Penélope Cruz, Milena Smit and Cast talk ‘Parallel Mothers’ At NYFF closing night [Video]
After an exciting, beautiful, art filled two weeks, Film at Lincoln Center concluded its 59th annual New York Film Festival (NYFF) on Friday night. Their final event was a showing of Pedro Almodóvar’s new film, “Parallel Mothers.”
Starring Penélope Cruz, the film tells the story of Cruz’s character Janis, a middle aged photographer, and the adolescent Ana, a young woman desperately trying to work through the many traumas of her life. The two women meet for the first time in a hospital room, both about to give birth to what will be their first children. Two women, from such different worlds, each suffering from their own rough patches in their lives, with wildly different feelings on the world they are about to embark on.
Meeting again at different points in their lives, the twists and turns in Janis and Ana’s stories are far from over. With so many small paradoxes leading up to one massive twist, this film is truly visionary and will have any viewer on the very edge of their seat the whole time, you never truly know what’s coming next. I couldn’t imagine a better film to end the festival on this year. We talked to the cast and the director of this brilliant film on the last night of NYFF’s pink carpet! Check out the full conversation above!
