This Week’s ‘Fear The Walking Dead’ is The Worst of The Season

by Julian Cannon May 22, 2022
written by Julian Cannon

I will have to be blunt about this week’s Fear The Walking Dead. It is the absolute worst episode of the current season.

I could not believe the sheer amount of stupidity that was displayed on my screen for the hour that I watched. Awful dialogue, pacing, storytelling, and twists that made my head spin without giving me time to digest what was going on. Let’s start with Wes. He was in Strand’s tower as a ranger for him for two episodes and all of the sudden, he turned against him and Strand’s rangers are now listening to him? Give me a break! This plot could have been for Howard. It would be more believable since he was with Strand from the end of the last season. But that would have to force the writers and show runners to actually write a compelling story.

Another problem I have with this current season of Fear The Walking Dead is all of the buildup. Why should anyone care about taking over Strand’s tower? The entire area is filled with radiation so that should be a sign for everyone to go somewhere else. Fourteen episodes to build this supposed war between Strand and Alicia and yet, they are the on and off again buddy-cop duo this week. This makes no sense and it completely eliminated everything that was being built up. Especially since Strand has been portrayed as a cartoon villain that I could not take seriously at all.

I will say one positive about this week’s Fear The Walking Dead. The season three flashbacks involving Daniel. That is a fantastic way of showing the viewers the last time the show was universally great. I find it funny that Charlie woke up when speaking to Daniel but yet, she was sleeping the whole time when gunfire was heard in the entire tower. Daniel then gets shot in the chest by Wes and he somehow survives. WHAT? Nick got shot in the chest and died a few seasons ago. But wait, there’s more nonsense coming up.

Everyone is shooting guns at each other (sometimes in a close proximity) and they are all missing their target. What kind of plot armor is this?

I was more annoyed with Daniel, Alicia, Strand, and Wes pointing guns at each other multiple times to the point where I am screaming “Enough of this bullshit, start shooting already” at the screen. Why would anyone try to talk it out if someone is threatening your life? Particularly when they’ve already admitted to wanting to kill you! Alicia and Strand were a great target for Wes and the gang, why didn’t they just go for it? Daniel saved the day and Alicia could have shot Wes. Why didn’t she? They aim their guns at each other constantly, shoot, then talk about it for a while, switch sides, and then get back at each other. Like what the actual fuck?! Who came up with this formula of awful storytelling?

Alicia and Strand’s scene at the near end of the episode was a cringefest. Everything they said was just out of character for them. It did not help that Alicia kicked down Strand and it looked comically bad. And we follow that up with Alicia passing out while Strand’s tower begins to burn down. Seconds later, all the suspense was killed because they showed Alicia alive on the preview of the next episode.

There was no war that happened. It was just all talk. The rules of radiation went out the window multiple times and I lost count of how many times I said it. All of the actors are talented and should not be wasted like this. This is one episode of Fear The Walking Dead where the script should have been thrown in the trash just like that high school episode of World Beyond! I do not give star ratings. But if I would, this week’s Fear The Walking Dead would get a negative four stars!

Exclusive: Fear The Walking Dead’s Christine Evangelista Breaks Down This Week’s Episode

by Julian Cannon May 16, 2022
written by Julian Cannon

Christine Evangelista’s character Sherry took a new turn in this week’s Fear the Walking Dead because she and her husband Dwight will soon become parents!

Sherry revealed to Dwight that she is pregnant. While it may be good news for the couple, they will have to navigate around the radioactive environment in Texas. The other factor is, Sherry and Dwight are joining Alicia in preparation with the war against Strand.

It was not the first time that these two had a conflict with a central character. On the main show The Walking Dead, it was Dwight who was involved with the war between Rick and Negan. Sherry decided to not participate in the conflict any longer as she ran away from The Saviors. With the emotional trauma she suffered, it was a good idea for her to get away from that mess.

Sherry and Dwight eventually found each other again on Fear The Walking Dead and they have grown closer as the time goes by. Christine Evangelista played the character since the main show. She joined the Fear cast during season six. It is easy to say that it is satisfying to see her evolution from her on-screen debut to now.

Sherry is a different character now and she is a person that does not take any nonsense from anyone at all. Christine Evangelista pours her heart out when she plays the character. Her and Austin Amelio bring out the best in each other and it is really showcased on this episode.

In this exclusive interview, we catch up with Christine Evangelista as we talk about the major scene from this week, what she would have taken home from the set, and much more.

There are only a few more episodes before this season of Fear The Walking Dead concludes.

Fear The Walking Dead Season 7, Episode 13 Review

by Julian Cannon May 15, 2022
written by Julian Cannon

After twelve exhausting episodes of the current season of Fear The Walking Dead, we are finally at a great episode.

That is because Austin Amelio and Christine Evangelista carried this week’s episode with spectacular acting that got me to care for the characters. The big surprise is Dwight and Sherry are having a baby. Prior to this, Dwight and Sherry were bickering back and forth about protecting Mo and what the next move would be. Once that reveal became out in the open, Sherry had time to reflect to see Dwight as a father. Last year on Mother’s Day, it was Gracie’s baby that passed away. This year on Mother’s Day (When this aired on AMC+ one week ago) Sherry is pregnant! Let’s hope that nothing happens to their baby.

I also like that the on-screen chemistry between Austin and Christine is always on a top-tier level. Whether if they are in an action scene or a word-fueled speech, these two really bring the best out of each other. Look at how they interact as a couple. I felt every second of their lines being said. Shame that I cannot feel the same when Morgan and Alicia are speaking.

Morgan decided to steer the walker herd away from The Tower to the bunker that Alicia was in. What was the end goal here?   It does not help that Morgan and Alicia were giving away their locations over the radio for Strand’s rangers to hear. Also, why is there so much emphasis of Mo being the future? I do not care about what they will do with Mo. I also do not care that Wes is suddenly a bad guy one episode in Strand’s Tower. At least Wes has something to do because the character has been directionless since his brother died.

I like Alicia. However, she is not convincing as a leader. I often have to remind myself that this “war” is starting but she does not have a plan. We are thirteen episodes in this season and I feel like we are still stuck on episode one with the way this story was mapped out. It needs to move fast in a logical way.

With those hiccups aside, this episode is so far the best of the second half of the current season.

Fear The Walking Dead Season 7, Episode 12 Review

by Julian Cannon May 8, 2022
written by Julian Cannon

This week on Fear The Walking Dead, we saw the demise of John Dorie Sr.

Almost a year after his son was shockingly killed, his dad meet the same fate. The circumstances were different however as John Sr. got baby Mo to her safety. During that journey out the tower, John Sr. got a walker bite and he was devoured by the last scene.

It has been quite a while since we got a major death on Fear The Walking Dead. This one felt like it mattered. That is because John Sr. admitted to Strand that he planted the radio in Howard’s room. Strand tested him to throw Howard off the tower and off he goes! The back and forth exchange between Strand and John Sr. is great as it showcased how compelling and convincing these two actors are. The Fear writers could have went away with the legacy talk. Especially since it is a zombie apocalypse and nobody should care about legacies or statuses.

As good as this episode is, did Morgan have to be the first person to respond to John Sr.’s radio call? Strand has all the radios and not one person heard the call? I was really annoyed by the super radios since season five and it is a comical trope on Fear now.

My favorite scene on this episode are the scenes between John and June. I was made to believe that one of them would be doomed for death when the water poured in with those walkers. Sure, they talked for a bit too. The action and sense of tension really brought out the quick time actions between the characters. They did everything they could do to save little Mo.

There are only a few more episodes left for the current season of Fear The Walking Dead. My main concern is, when is this so called “war” going to start that Alicia declared?

Fear The Walking Dead Season 7, Episode 11 Review

by Julian Cannon May 1, 2022
written by Julian Cannon

Daniel’s journey on Fear The Walking Dead is no where near over.

That is because he is not to be messed with at all regardless of his state. Luciana also used his memory for her own advantage. As cold as that was, in the apocalypse, you have to do what you have to do in order to survive.

Is it safe to say that Arno served no purpose on Fear The Walking Dead? sure he died in this episode. But the whole time I was watching him meet his demise, I did not care to feel bad for him. At least the walkers had a great snack. I am interested to see if Wes is really joining Strand, or if he is there to take him down by a surprise.

As a result of Luiana using Daniel’s amnesia against him, they get get close to Strand’s Tower. I actually felt something for the first time in a while. That is, we’re going to lose him by the end of the season. There needs to be some thinning out of the cast by the time Madison returns. Daniel still believes that Ofelia is alive. Ofelia has been dead since the third season and I still think that he is somewhat grieving.

The writing team deserves a lot of credit for letting the majority of the episode be in Spanish / subtitled as well. I have always found The Walking Dead franchise to be diverse, and I especially love how it is incorporated into the series. This was also Alycia Debnam-Carey’s directorial debut on Fear The Walking Dead and her style is interesting. Alycia has a great visionary mind when it comes to camera angles, mood, and identifying a good story. It turned out to be a great episode of Fear. “Ofelia” should have been the season opener!
