Stella Artois & John Legend ‘Give Beautifully’ This Holiday Season

by Estefania Garcia-Correa December 11, 2015
written by Estefania Garcia-Correa

With twinkling lights in the ceiling like shooting stars in the sky, the Skylight at Moynihan station transformed into a glimpse of the firmament with all eyes on John Legend and ears on his angelical voice.

On Wednesday December 9, The Knockturnal was on the scene for a first-of-its-kind immersive and interactive light installation presented by Stella Artois. The preview included a stellar performance by the charming artist.

Before we entered this starry venue, we were welcomed to a sparkly room with delicious finger food such as truffled cheddar pretzels to pair up with our Stella Artois beers. Here we learned about the 600-year-old brewing heritage of the Belgian beer brand.

The focus of this room was geared towards this year’s holiday campaign called Give Beautifully. It consists of delivering a series of seasonal surprises that embrace the true essence of the company.

unnamed

Once we stepped into the room filled with over 500 kinetic LED lights, we felt like we were in the middle of space.

Different color and sized balls moved harmoniously up and down the room while shinning simultaneously. The ambiance felt like a holiday Christmas caroling get-together.

John Legend told the intimate crowd that he was happy to collaborate with Stella on this special event that required coming up with a song related to the sound that stars make. He graced the audience with some of his top hits such as You & I, Tonight, Ordinary People, All of Me and ended the evening with singing Under the Stars live for the very first time.

We strongly recommend that you RSVP to visit this holiday wonder. The installation opens to the public on December 10 until December 12. For more information visit StellaArtois.com.

by Estefania Garcia-Correa November 18, 2015
written by Estefania Garcia-Correa

On November 16th, Nadja Swarovski and Linda Fargo, hosted the “brilliant” holiday partnership between Bergdorf Goodman and Swarovski. Before the cocktail reception, the iconic Bergdorf’s holiday windows were revealed. They all included colorful Swarovski crystals as their principal material to intricately adorn the classic pieces.

Nadja Swarovski, Bergdorf Goodman’s Linda Fargo, Joshua Schulman and David Hoey, and guests including Iris Apfel, Fern Mallis, Lynn Yaeger, Tanya Taylor, Steven Kolb, Emma Snowdon-Jones, Cipriana Quann, TK Quann, Adam Lippes, Paul Andrew, Gigi Burris, Alexandra Vidal, Adam Selman, Indre Rockefeller, Danielle Bernstein, Katie Ermilio, Ryan Lobo, Ramon Martin, Kevin Tachman, Michaela Kocianova and more attended the event.

The partnership commemorates the 120 anniversary of the Austrian crystal company. Not only were the windows decorated with over seven million Swarovski crystals but throughout the store, one could see special décor installations and collaborations. On the third floor we saw the Swarovski Crystal Palace designs by Tord Boontje, Yves Béhar, and D.B. Kim, as well as stunning sparkly dresses by Versace, Badgley Mischka, Alice + Olivia, Alexandra Vidal and others. The Swarovski décor installations on the 3rd and 7th floors will be on display until mid-January.

A fun moment was when legendary NY Times photographer, Bill Cunningham took photos of Iris Apfel. Everyone on the scene watched in awe.

HBO Latino Hosts Special Screening of ‘The Poet of Havana’

by Estefania Garcia-Correa October 18, 2015
written by Estefania Garcia-Correa

With mariquitas, little cubans sliders, and gorgeous posters of Havana, we were welcomed to “The Poet of Havana Screening.” The room was covered in posters and screens showing the touching image of Carlos Varela with his hand on his heart and Cuba as a backdrop.

Before the screening started, three Latin American poets performed their pieces in homage to the great cuban artist. The three of them spoke from the heart and the audience noticed. Everyone clapped and got prepared for what was coming.

Once the screen turned black, our perception of Cuba would never be the same. Here is a man who has been singing poems of protest and discontent towards oppression and governmental hierarchies for decades and has been a massive success in his motherland. This is in contrast to what we thought of Cuba as a communist and dictatorship nation.

The documentary touches on the politics of the embargo, the relationship between the United States and Cuba, and the reality of both cubans and Americans missing out on each others’ culture for a decision that they were not involved in.

Nevertheless, this man broke the international barriers and let his words of freedom reach far beyond his island. With friends Jackson Browne and Benicio del Toro as his supporters, he has managed to share his people’s story of an intense desire for freedom.

As we completely understood his social metaphors, the preview of the documentary ended. It is an understatement to say that we are hungry for more. We want to learn more about how one man and his voice helped change stereotypes, and how a intellectual revolution changed the people of Cuba, and how a people’s yearning for freedom took place just 330 miles away from the land of the free.

Watch the full documentary on HBO October 23rd, 2015.

Sofia Coppola & Grace Coddington Celebrate Opening of Louis Licari Salon

by Estefania Garcia-Correa October 16, 2015
written by Estefania Garcia-Correa

On Tuesday October 13th, one of today’s most iconic hair carrier/Vogue creative director/author, Grace Coddington, along with actress and filmmaker Sofia Coppola celebrated the grand opening of the Louis Licari Salon located on 693 Fifth Avenue at 54 street. Some of the hair stylist’s frequent clients such as Calvin Klein, Hoda Kotb, Kathie Lee Gifford, Jill Martin, Joy Bauer, Katie Couric, and Sandra Lee were in attendance.

[slideshow]

The event was catered by STK, which provided guests with delicious mini versions of their most popular plates like their kale salad and tuna tartare. While all of the perfectly hairstyled guests mingled as if it was a house party and they hadn’t seen each other in a while, everyone sampled the signature dishes. The environment was very friendly and welcomed all types of conversations revolving around hair.

After listening to one-too-many women talking about their hair secrets and routines, we decided to approach the two hostesses of the night and learn their top hair tips. Grace Coddignton said that she has been Louis’s client for thirty years, and Sofia has been one since she turned eighteen.

They both follow Louis’s advices on which shampoo, conditioner and other products to use. “It depends entirely on him. I have sort of conditioner stuff but other than that I don’t do any touch ups,” said Grace Coddington.

To achieve the hairstyles of the stars, you can purchase the Louis Licari hair products in his hair salon.

Pronovias Hosts First Runway Show During New York Bridal Week

by Estefania Garcia-Correa October 11, 2015
written by Estefania Garcia-Correa

The spaniard family firm presented its 2016 collection of couture-like bridal gowns on October 10, at the landmark building 583 Park Avenue. The iconic venue provided a glorious space with exquisite chandeliers that added the extra touch of elegance to the beautiful gowns.

The collection used transparencies that created optical effects, delicate lace textures, and silk tailored as gauze. These three factors aided in elevating the classic fabrics from bridal tradition into presenting them in a modern light.

With classic instrumental tunes, the models swayed gracefully on the runway. All of them had romantic chignons and natural looking makeup.

We loved the Verda dress that featured transparent fabric with a nude backdrop, delicate lace strategically placed as if it were brush strokes on the models body, and a stunning tail with sparkly brocade.

All of the wedding dresses were extremely delicate and intricate enough without being over-the-top. It made us think about how could we manage to wear them for everyday situations. Maybe if we remove the veils and trains, we can wear one of them to the annual office party?

We can only dream right? What we are certain of is that after seeing this dreamlike collection, we know why Pronovias accounts for 88% of all wedding dresses exports from Spain which is the world’s leader exporter of the sector.

Reem Acra Presents Fall 2016 Bridal Collection

by Estefania Garcia-Correa October 11, 2015
written by Estefania Garcia-Correa

IMG_9716 IMG_9722 IMG_9730

This season, Reem Acra, a Fashion Institute of Technology alumna and one of the top names in bridal design, opted for creating dresses for a young and hip clientele. Her fall 2016 collection specifically targeted the millennial bride.

As soon as we entered the room, we were welcomed by a guitar player and live tunes that served as the perfect background for what was to come.

Acra kept her signature embroideries, combining them with tulle, organza and crepe, and lace details. The variety in the fabrics and shades of color gave the modern bride a wide range of options to make her special day absolutely unique.

The collection emphasized in lightness, simpleness, and comfort. It was apparent that the today bride wants to feel comfortable and be able to enjoy her entire special day without worrying about the dress being an inconvenience. All of the models were enjoying themselves and having fun while they walked the runway. This reflected in the lightness of the dresses and how weddings are joyful occasions.

One of the dresses that we loved was the strapless siren dress with a delicate lace motif bodice and a splendid tulle tail. Not only did we love the details of the look, but also the adorable bejeweled headphones and matching selfie stick that adorned the whole ensemble. We know that most likely we won’t be walking down the isle with these accessories, but we would probably need a chic selfie stick like these to capture all of our favorite moments at the reception.

Monique Lhuillier Presents Spring/Summer 2016 Collection

by Estefania Garcia-Correa September 14, 2015
written by Estefania Garcia-Correa

It was back to basics at Monique Lhuillier spring/summer 2016 presentation.

The classic shapes and primary color a-line dresses started to transition into embellished, embroided and lace modern looks with artistic peplums. The inspiration came from contemporary art and bold colors, which translated intelligently into the floating geometrical sculptures that decorated the runway, and the sculptured lines of the clothes.

The designer is known for her girly and always elegant evening wear. This season was no different. Lhuillier kept the brocade details and structured shapes, but transitioned away from the silky draped shapes.

The models looked elegant and adorned with simple makeup, hair, and nails.

Morgan Taylor lead artist Gina Edwards designed the fresh look. “The Monique Lhuillier girl is fresh and young, adding colorful bursts to otherwise classic shapes and silhouettes. For the youthful twist on a classic French mani, a coat of sheer pink Simply Irresistible is used followed by a thin tip of jelly green Later Alligator.”

The ballerina style bun can be achieved in 5 easy steps:

1. Starting with damp hair use your fingers to comb Moroccanoil Volumizing Mousse through strands from root-to-tip. Rough dry
2. For a high-shine style, generously most entire head with Moroccanoil Glimmer Spray. Using a wide-tooth comb, comb hair to the back center of the head and secure with an elastic.
3. Thread a 4″ piece of elastic horizontally through the center of the ponytail (behind the pony elastic), and leave loose for the next step:
4. Gently twist ponytail into a figure 8 chignon, tucking in any loose ends. Then pull each side of the threaded elastic around the chignon and tie in a knot at the center to secure chignon in place.
5. Set the style with a generous mist of Motoccanoil Luminous Hairspray.

Look was created by Bob Recine for Moroccanoil.
