The seven-member boy group under FNC Entertainment brings together talent from all around the world, comprising of members KAMDEN (USA), BRIAN (Canada), JIHO (South Korea), SIYUN (South Korea), KYRELL (USA), MACKIAH (Australia), and SEUNGMO (South Korea).
Fresh off the release of their latest EP, One Question, AMPERS&ONE continues to carve out their distinct sound in the K-pop scene. The Knockturnal had the chance to sit down with the group to discuss their highly anticipated tour, and their recent achievements—including nominations for Rookie of the Year at the Hanteo Music Awards 2023, Best New Male Artist —and their excitement about performing for overseas fans. Dive into our full conversation below!
AMPERS&ONE had a remarkable year in 2024, with nominations for Rookie of the Year at the Hanteo Music Awards 2023, Best New Male Artist, and Artist of the Year at the 2024 MAMA Awards.
The Knockturnal: How do these achievements set you up for success in 2025? How are you feeling about it all?
[KAMDEN] First of all we are so honored to have been nominated for such prestigious awards and for this new year, we hope to win one and gift it to our ANDEARs (the fans) who have truly supported us along this journey from the start. In the meantime, our members are constantly brainstorming how each will showcase various versions/colors of themselves on stage so please look forward to it.
[JIHO] We’re so grateful that you recognize our potential and think so highly of us that we want to show the results in 2025! We’re buoyed by these achievements, and in 2025 we’ll be moving forward and growing, as our team name suggests.
The Knockturnal: The tour is called ‘My First ___’ —what does that represent? Is it your first tour?
[SEUNGMO] It can be interpreted as a variety of different ideas of what ANDEAR means to AMPERSANDONE and what AMPERSANDONE means to ANDEAR. It can be interpreted as our beginning, as this is our first tour since our debut.
[MACKIAH] It is the first tour we’ve arranged since our debut and the name ‘My First ___’ can be interpreted in many ways. It can represent our ANDEARs as being our “First Love” and each member has their interpretation of the name.
The Knockturnal: What are some other “firsts” you’re hoping to experience this year with AMPERS&ONE on this tour?
[SIYUN] I’m traveling to the U.S. for the first time in my life, so I’m excited to experience everything for the first time as an individual and as a group!
[BRIAN] I’m hoping to experience new cultures and get to know our new ANDEARs! Also, I can’t wait to try new food when we go on our tour!
The Knockturnal: AMPERS&ONE is a multinational group with members from the U.S., Canada, Australia, and South Korea. Are any of you visiting the U.S. again or for the first time? Does that bring up any nostalgic feelings for the group?
[KAMDEN] I was born here so certainly not my first time but the last time I was here in the U.S. was 2 years ago which has been a while so I’m very pumped to be back again! I tend to get nostalgic often especially due to good memories here and something that I’ve been missing particularly was the fresh air and colorful skies it offers. I’m looking forward to introducing all the breathtaking places and delicious cuisine to our members as well as taking lots of pics to store our time here.
[KYRELL] I’m excited to be heading back to the US. I was born and raised in Seattle and although unfortunately, we won’t be visiting my home town being back in the US is exciting! I can’t wait to share In-N-Out burgers with the members.
The Knockturnal: On this tour, are any members excited about specific landmarks or food in the 18 states you’ll be visiting?
[JIHO] I used to live in Boston for about a year when I was younger, so I’m excited to go back and perform there after a long time.
[MACKIAH] I’m excited to try Kyrells’ recommendation of his favorite burger which is the In-N-Out Cheeseburger!
The Knockturnal: Your discography is tight yet impactful. Which song is each member most excited to perform on the North American stage?
[SIYUN] We’re covering Stray Kids’ ‘God’s Menu‘ this time, and we’re excited about it because we think ANDEARS are going to love it!
[SEUNGMO] I’m looking forward to ‘Broken Heart,’ the title track of our 2nd single album because I want to show AMPERS&ONE’s passion and powerful performance so that ANDEAR can enjoy the stage with us and make a strong impression.
The Knockturnal: K-Pop shows are all about units! If you could form your own units and perform specific songs, which songs would you choose and which members would you want to team up with?
[KAMDEN] I’d like to perform ‘Nothin’ on You’ by Bruno Mars and B.O.B with Brian! I think we’d make a great team with the synergy my raps and his vocals create.
[BRIAN] I would want to team up with SIYUN for some type of RnB unit! We could maybe do a song like ‘If I Ain’t Got You’ – Alicia Keys! I think it would suit us well.
[JIHO] I spent a lot of time with Kamden as a trainee, so there are a lot of songs we practiced together, but I haven’t shown ANDEAR our chemistry since our debut, so I’d love to do a unit stage with him!
[SIYUN] I want to cover JVKE ‘Golden Hour’ with SEUNGMO! I sometimes sang with SEUNGMO in the practice room not very seriously, and I thought, why don’t we cover it as a unit?
[KYRELL] I would like to do a unit performance with SEUNGMO since I’ve never done one with him before! Maybe sing some Justin Bieber? Or Keshi, I know he likes Keshi a lot.
[MACKIAH] I’ve always wanted to try a rap unit with Kamden and Jiho because we all enjoy writing our lyrics and flows and I’m excited to see what we can come up with.
[SEUNGMO] I would like to show a wonderful vocal stage with SIYUN so that ANDEAR can enjoy listening to our voice.
The Knockturnal: AMPERS&ONE doesn’t have a lightstick yet—what can fans bring or wear to the shows that you’d love to see? What are you looking forward to in terms of meeting the fans?
[KAMDEN] I’d be very happy if our fans could bring something like a speaker and cheer for us loud enough that I can hear from the stage haha. I also love seeing cards and banners with my name on them because I do get emotional, in a good way, every time I see such beautiful ones made by our fans and think about the effort they put into those, I mean how could you not tear up right? These are the aspects I’m so excited about and can’t wait for the interactions with our fans!
[SIYUN] I don’t think you need much, just a willingness to have fun and a mobile for the flashlight!? I’m also looking forward to loud cheers from the ANDEAR as we go on the tour.
The Knockturnal: Can you give us a sneak peek of any spoilers from the show or setlist? Or will we have to wait and see for ourselves?
[BRIAN] We will be performing ‘Slide‘ from our One Question EP for the first time in North America! We will also be doing some other exciting cover songs for the first time but, you’ll have to come to see for yourself!
[KYRELL] We’ve got a few new performances on the menu! Are you all curious? Yeah? That’s what I like to hear! Well, you’ll find out when you come hehe sorry! No spoilers.
The Knockturnal: What are you hoping to achieve next as a group? Any closing message for ANDEAR?
[KAMDEN] We would love it if this year we could place first in music shows, and we are so geared for it! and to our ANDEARs, thank you to each one of you for staying by our side and cheering for us! Our members and I will work hard to make sure that 2025 is filled with precious memories
[BRIAN] We hope to become more globally known and also win first at a music show! ANDEAR is the best! I can’t wait to see you guys and I hope we can make some unforgettable memories together! Love you ANDEAR.
[JIHO] Off the top of my head, I think the next goal for our team is to be number one in the music shows. I think it’s because of ANDEAR that we can do our music and performances that we love! Thank you so much and we will always repay you with better performances! Love you ANDEAR!
[SIYUN] Let’s all go to the Super Bowl together! We will continue to have fun and enjoy together! We will go on a tour a lot, make a lot of comebacks, and shoot a lot of content, so let’s always have fun! [KYRELL] As a group I think our goal is to keep improving both our skills and our teamwork. And ANDEAR, we just wanna say thank you for always being so supportive of us! You are our reason!
[MACKIAH] I would love to make more amazing music and performances with the members and be able to show our work to as many people as possible so we can all enjoy music together! A message to ANDEAR would be a big thank you for all the love and support we receive as it means the most to us all in AMPERS&ONE.
[SEUNGMO] I want to be in first place in a music show and meet ANDEAR all around the world. Through more shows and concerts, I want to meet more ANDEARS.
