On Thursday, June 11, American Express hosted a party at the luxurious penthouse of Milk Studios New York in order to celebrate their coveted Gold Card membership.
Directly off of the elevator, it was clear this was a party that was literally dripping in gold. A gold carpet led attendees first to photo booths, food tables, and cocktail bars. The three hour event was catered by Gabrielle Hamilton of Prune and included delectables such as “crispy duck wings with fresh turmeric and tahini sauce”, “deviled saffron eggs with trout roe”, “east coast oysters with mustard oil mignonette”, and “artichoke hearts with lemon zest aioli and golden garlic confit”.
While the crowd was a little dance-shy, everyone was talking about the two garments on display – the first being a dress by designer Alexander Wang made of over 500 American Express Gold cards in the form of a chain-mail-like textile. Even though there were only a few daring dancers in the mix, Chelsea Leyland provided the DJ’ing for the evening and everyone seemed to enjoy her diverse, catchy set. To match the gold painted trunks, carpets, and gold rimmed champagne flutes, Leyland spun her vinyls atop a podium completely covered in gold AmEx cards. To end the night, guests were provided gift bags featuring complimentary LOMO cameras, film, and an AmEx gold notebook.
