The Knockturnal attended the exclusive “American Animals” premiere and red carpet!
Earlier this week, American Animals held its premiere in New York as the cast gathered to celebrate. American Animals is a film based on a true story and even intermixes the real people who inspired the film along with the actors. Directed by the iconic Bart Layton, American Animals stars Evan Peters, Barry Keoghan, Blake Jenner and Jared Abrahamson as our four protagonists looking for a meaningful, yet misguided experience. Composer Anne Nikitin
Can you talk about the process of creating the soundtrack to the film?
I worked with Bart, I worked with him before on The Imposter so I kind of knew his approach. I read the script and started sketching early on and then for about a year during scripting, shooting, and editing, I wrote sketches and tried to come up with the right themes.
What was your favorite scene from the film?
Probably the Flamingo scene and I also enjoyed writing for the actual heist.
Barry Keoghan
What was it like working with Bart?
Bart’s a legend, he’s constantly looking out for you. Offset as well.
What drew you to the role?
Bart did. He’s incredible. He’s such a good filmmaker and I wanted to work with him.
What was your favorite scene?
Spencer Reinhard
What was it like to recreate the actual story?
It’s been a process. We’ve been working on it for years now. It’s gone through lots of transitions. It started out as a pretty standard documentary and it’s evolved over time into something we never imagined. The film has taken on a whole new element.
What was your favorite scene/moment to see recreated on the big screen?
It’s really hard to live through but the heist scene at the end really brings it back full circle. It humanizes the characters quite a bit.
What drew you to this project?
Everything, working with Bart- the script. The whole ride.
Blake Jenner
What was your favorite scene?
My favorite scene in the film- there’s a scene where Evan’s character is running through our jobs in the heist and he tells me that I have to drive so I have to practice it over and over again. Getting to practice and bob and weave in mapped out traffic was fun.

What was your first reaction?
My first reaction was let me think about it and I thought about it for the past 5 years and I was really concerned about choosing to work with somebody that would actually share an authentic story and not exploit it and really showcase what actually happened.

What was your favorite scene to film?
Definitely the heist.
The fun party followed at the Bowery Hotel. The premiere was presented by The Orchard and MoviePass Ventures. The film is now playing.
