Helmed by filmmaker Beth Aala, Uncharted takes audiences behind the scenes of Alicia Keys’ She Is The Music songwriting camp. Participants at the camp take center stage as they work to achieve their dreams and break through the industry with the next big hit song.
Uncharted offers phenomenal access to the aspiring creatives’ lives. From their performances on the road to intimate practice and recording sessions at the camp, the girls share their ambitions, dreams, and hopes with viewers. The feature also dives into Alicia Keys’ world, where she shares her own struggles within the music industry in addition to vocalizing her desire to champion opportunities for women up and coming in the music business.
The Knockturnal got the opportunity to chat with Alicia Keys, Beth Aala, and more at the feature’s world premiere at Tribeca.
“It’s so cool to see them all doing their work and being producers, writers, engineers, creators, visionaries, and DJs,” Alicia Keys said of the creatives that the feature follows. “There is no limit to who they are and I think I really got the chance to see how talented they are, so I am excited for you to see Uncharted so you can see their story and how talented they are, and support them and support She Is The Music.”
“Isn’t it so good,” Keys said of working with an all-female team to bring Uncharted to life. “That’s the best part about the film as well. It really was very intentionally done. The point of She Is The Music and the point of where we are in the world is that let’s be conscious and continue to hire diverse people so they can be in front and behind the screen and even in the office, and in C-suites, and in boardrooms, and in the studio, and everywhere, so it really represents that.”
“Coming up is a big, huge, tour starting on June 28, it’s called Keys to the Summer,” Keys said of what is next for her. “I just launched Hell’s Kitchen which is going to be a musical that’s going to blow your whole face off, and Uncharted — you must see it.”
