Adam Friedman: Perfect Boy Next Door

Friedman’s enviably cool aesthetic and velvety vocals put us in a trance, but also made us want to be his best friend.

The only thing better than staring talent straight in the eye is when that talent is as pure and as effortless as can be. That’s what when we had the opportunity to see up singer/songwriter Adam Friedman perform up close and personal, we were in for a real treat. It’s no surprise that the West LA native is best pals with “Cooler Than Me” singer Mike Posner judging by the uncanny similarities in their nonchalant demeanor.

Friedman treated the attendees of NYC’s exclusive members-only venue, Ludlow House, to an intimate 7-song show. He walked outo the small stage looking as lax as can be, wearing grey joggers and a tee, and immediately began to vibe out to an unreleased track from his forthcoming EP called “Signals”. He bounced along to the rhythm of the beat and motioned for the crowd – timid in nature – to get closer to the stage and mirror his movements. He has an undeniable knack for inciting comfort within those in his presence.

The rest of his set included two collabs with Mike Posner – “Be As You Are” and “Lemonade” – as well as a soulful, keyboard-heavy song – “Stronger” – which will presumably be released in his forthcoming EP. There was something awfully refreshing about his performance and the way he interacted with his band. At one point during the show Friedman took a break to ask the audience to give his companions a warm round of applause. The chemistry between them was one of the fundamental factors that made the performance so pleasant to watch. Regardless of coming from different cities, backgrounds, etc., they all share one very important thing: a dying passion for making and playing music.

By the end of the show people in the audience had mustered up enough energy to crawl out of their timid shell and dance along to Friedman’s groovy tunes. He wrapped up his set with his first ever release, what he claimed to be “his favorite song to play live”, “Pretty Things”. Given that this show was just a taste of what’s in the future for Adam, we must say we’re excited for his first EP to drop. Perhaps another Mike Posner/Adam Friedman tour, but this time one where headline status is shared between the both of them.

Keep a lookout for his debut EP, set to release on February 10th. Listen to his latest single, “Sad”, now!
