Meryl Streep Doubles as Donald Trump in Central Park

Meryl Streep adds “Donald Trump” to her repertoire after impersonating the billionaire businessman at the Public Theatre Gala last Monday night.

Meryl Streep is a stranger to no one but her latest role surprised even the actress’ most devoted fans. As part of the Public Theatre’s benefit celebration, Streep dressed up as Donald Trump to perform “Brush Up Your Shakespeare” alongside Christine Baranski (who appeared as Hillary Clinton) as part of the night’s closing act.

Donning characteristically Trump-ian attire, including orange make-up, a fluffy comb-over and red tie hanging loose over a faux-stout belly, Streep strolled across the stage during her performance; intermittently, she would gesture to the audience, mimicking Trump’s mannerisms from his Make-America-Great-Again campaign. Each action, each note, was accompanied by the three-time Oscar winner pursing her lips and deepening her voice to match Trump’s bravado style.

Meryl Streep’s transformation was a shock to audience and fellow cast members alike. Hiding in her dressing room until show time, Streep prepared for the big reveal by practicing lines and mannerisms she picked up whilst observing Trump’s campaign in the media. Known for her adaptability and transformation into characters, including the political figures Emmeline Pankhurst and Margaret Thatcher, Streep’s latest performance solidifies these well-supported claims as she successfully embodied yet another challenging figure.
