Crazy for ‘Animal Crackers’

Ian McKellen, Wallace Shawn, Sylvester Stallone, Harvey Fierstein, Gilbert Gottfried, Danny DeVito. No, I know what you’re thinking, and no, this isn’t the next sequel in The Expendables series, The Expendables 5: Older, Fatter, and 3 People under 5’5” (although, after the last one, I doubt this can get any worse).

Nope, these guys are all going to be part of Animal Crackers, a new animated comedy that also stars Patrick Warburton, Raven-Symone, and Emily Blunt and John Krasinski playing a married couple. (Cue the awws). Tony Bancroft and Dean Lorey direct and write the film, respectively, based off of a cartoon that Scott Christian Sava made for his kids, who also steps in as a writer and director.

The film follows magical animal crackers who are called upon by a family to stop Horatio P. Huntington, the family’s evil uncle,  who wants to take over a rundown circus.

Somehow Expendables 5 sounds a lot more interesting.

Alright, calm down, there’s more to it. The family, which includes Krasinski as Owen and Blunt as Zoe, finds out that these special animal crackers they inherited have the power to turn anyone who eats them into an animal. Using this knowledge to their advantage, they set out to help protect their newly owned circus.

Besides PT Barnum’s family, who else inherits a circus and animal crackers? Guess we have to wait until the film’s release next summer to find out more information.
