Rebecca Minkoff’s spring collection was inspired by Marianne Faithfull, a symbol of the 1960’s youthquake.
She embodied sweet rebellion and a new coming of age with her brash and youthful spirit. Much of the collection reflected Rebecca’s modern vision of Marianne Faithfull, with flowing dresses, minis, geo-floral prints and mod-enamel jewelry that flashes back to London in the late 1960’s. However, the retro feel is updated for the tech-minded millennials of today, signaling a present-day youth movement.
The collection had a touch of western influence as fringe was incorporated in every look. True to Minkoff’s signature, exaggerated, long, fringed zipper pulls adorned some of the bags have upgraded their fringe to full on tassels. Finge made an appearance in the bags where the movement contrasted the billowing flow of the airy tops and dresses this season. She played with suede and leather mixed with lace for that hard meets feminine vibe. The contrast of the hardware in the form of grommets and studs with the light, sheer chiffon tops work in perfect harmony.
The footwear for this collection is blogger-approved to die for, that left everyone lusting for them after the show. The sandals are a marriage of western cowboy with a delicate roman princess. The intricate cut out designs and the detail of the sandals are versatile enough to complete any outfit for any occasion.
THE LOOK:
Prep:
skyn ICELAND was founded by current president and CEO Sarah Kugelman, to create solutions for stressed skin. Fashion week is one of the highest stress factors of the year, but luckily skyn ICELAND is there to prep and prime all the models pre-runway.
The models’ skin are all cleansed with the Glacial Cleansing Cloths which are easy and quick to use to prep the skin for skincare absorption. Pure Pore Minimizer was then used to minimize the pores to create a flawless base. To combat tired eyes and skin, Hydro Cool Firming Eye and Face Gels were applied while they got their hair done to allow the skin to soak up all the goodness and depuff the skin. Then the skin was moisturized with different options according to the skin type of the model. The brand offers Arctic Hydrating Balm for very dry skin Pure Cloud Cream for dry and irritable skin, the ANTIDOTE for combination skin as well as an Arctic Elixir Serum to tighten and calm the skin. The eyes were then treated with Icelandic relief Eye Cream and once the makeup was done, it was set with the Arctic Face Mist for a beautiful, healthy glow.
Hair:
TRESemme invited us backstage before the show to see the hair look come alive:
To compliment the effortless style of the clothes, TRESemme’s Lead Stylist Jeanie Syfu created a textured but airy blowout with grown out bangs and a center part. She first applied TRESemme Perfectly (un)Done Wave Creation Sea Foam on damp hair throughout the length of the hair and rough dry. Then keep layering in TRESemme Perfectly (un)Done Sea Salt Spray and continue drying until the hair as achieved a bedhead texture. Continue to blow dry the hair, but using a round brush this time, take large sections of hair and applying a light tension to the brush to finish the ends while keeping the airy tousled look. Roll the ends into large barrel curls and clip them to the temple to set the look. The center part was then created using a tail comb and clip in bangs were attached. If you’ve got second day hair, Syfu recommends using TRESemme Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo to absorb any excess oil and refresh strands. Then brush back the surface of the hair to create the airy texture.
Make Up:
Marianne Faithfull is the inspiration for this look so there’s a lot of pretty mattes going on on the eye. There’s some black liner and a lot of mascara to take it back to the 60’s. So the products that we used for this look, we started with a base of Sensual Skin Enhancer we only used it in certain areas on the face. Then we used #102 for the eyes, which was the base and #105 on the top. The liners are the new Precision Liners from Kevyn Aucoin and we just lined it very close to the lashline and we did a little bit of the inner waterline as well. We are really focusing on that mascara and packing it on. For the mascara, we used the new Liquid Glamour that comes out next spring, for the face, we used Liquid Contour in Starlight to add a glow to the skin. Then we added Cashmere Liquid Glow and pressed it onto the lip.
Nails:
Essie sponsored the nail portion of the show as Minkoff is the brand’s Global Color Designer. The nail look is a beautiful ombre, pastel, lucite sunset which was inspired by the chunky heels found throughout the collection. By using a makeup sponge, draw thin horizontal lines with the colors tarte deco, marshmallow, beach bum blu, and midnight cami to a clean nail. Sponge the colored pattern onto the nails, making sure to reapply the colors on the sponge every other nail. One coat of spaghetti strap over each nail to help soften the sunset, and finish with get setter top coat.
