As Summer comes to an end what better way to send off the season than with a sizzling bang!Yesterday The Knockturnal had the pleasure of attending a special event of what may be one of the best movies of the year. “Trust one, fear the other” is the perfect description of the Sony/Screen Gems film “The Perfect Guy.” This intense thrill-seeking movie starring Micheal Ealy, Sanaa Lathan and Morris Chestnut is sure to hit the top of the box office. “Everyone is not exactly who they appear to be, ” says Sanaa as she describes her idea of what could be considered the fatal attraction of “The Perfect Guy.” Sanaa as “Leah” in the film notices that her “Perfect Guy” Micheal Ealy (Carter) turns out to be not quite what he initially presented himself as. Check highlights from the Q and A’s with Sanaa as she talks the movie, helping with executive producing and her idea of why her perfect guy is.

Q: So, the movie is entitled “The Perfect Guy,” what is your ideal or perfect guy? What are the top three attributes your guy must have?

Sanaa: I mean I have a long list but, The Top Three I would say are:

Sense of Humor, you see how silly I am. I love to laugh, I love to have fun, life is too short. I am very ambitious, I just love to have fun and you have to have a great sense of humor.

You have to be a communicator cause I do love to talk.

And thirdly would definitely have to be Confidence!

Q: With preparation for this role did you meet any woman that had gone through this thing and what message would you like woman to take to kind of avoid this?

Sanaa: I’m not really a big message person in terms of movies because I believe that everybody brings their own message within them so you might get something different from what another person will. The thing that I really came to is that “Leah” had to find her own strength and the metaphor for me is no one is going to save you but yourself. So even if you’re in a violent situation, work or whatever the situation may be, you have to be in control of your own destiny and so I felt like that was very empowering.

Q: With such a time like this, how do you keep your relationship/personal life so personal?

Sanaa: I’ve been in this business almost 20 years, I had to learn the hard way. When I started out there wasn’t social media but, there were blogs and I’ve been thrown on the blogs and I’ve just learned that the more you keep your private life private , the better.  It’s just in general that nothing good comes from it no matter how positive you are and that’s just my personal experience.

Q: Which roles are you most comfortable playing? Comedy or these intense roles ?

Sanaa: The thing about the business is you get what they have seen. There is a lack of vision in the business. But I come from the theatre. Before I even started in film I did like 30 different plays so I’m very comfortable with comedy AND drama. The thing that I love is the variety of it all. I love just being able to step into another perspective so if it’s action then, Great. If it’s comedy then, Great. But it’s really about the script and sometimes good scripts are few and far between.

Q: You are one of the top actresses out and I’m not sure if there will be a sequel for “The Perfect Guy” but what movie do your fans most ask that there be a sequel for and will there be one?

Sanaa : Definitely, “Love and Basketball” .. But it has been so big and such a success that I think some things are just left best alone.

The film is now playing.
