The stars of The Social Reckoning gathered in New York City for the film’s premiere at Regal Union Square, marking the latest chapter in Aaron Sorkin’s exploration of the people and forces behind one of the most consequential stories of the digital age.
Inspired by the real-life events surrounding Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen and The Wall Street Journal’s “Facebook Files,” the film follows Haugen, played by Oscar winner Mikey Madison, as she teams up with journalist Jeff Horwitz, played by Jeremy Allen White, to expose the social network’s most closely guarded secrets.
Written and directed by Sorkin, The Social Reckoning brings together a standout ensemble including Wunmi Mosaku, Betty Gilpin, Billy Magnussen, Bill Burr and Jeremy Strong, who takes on the role of Mark Zuckerberg.
With the film arriving at a moment when our relationship with social media and the enormous influence of the companies behind it continues to evolve, The Social Reckoning asks timely questions about technology, accountability, journalism and the courage it takes to speak up against a powerful institution.
On the red carpet, The Knockturnal caught up with Sorkin, White, Madison and members of the cast to discuss bringing the story to the screen, stepping into the roles of real-life figures, and what drew them to a story that continues to resonate in an ever-changing digital landscape.
