AddFor literature lovers, there’s quite literally nothing better than a rare book fair — especially when there are presentations from fantastic dealers like Peter Harrington Rare Books.
Situated in the historical Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, Peter Harrington was one of 18 exhibitors at the Empire State Rare Book Fair. They showcased books across politics, classic literature and visual arts. Founded in 1969 in London, Peter Harrington recently expanded across the pond, with a brand new New York City gallery that opened in 2025. And in just over a year, they’ve established themselves as a leading rare book store in the city.
With complimentary glasses of wine in hand, visitors perused the collection in awe. Some of the most exciting books on their shelves were Sylvia Plath’s own copy of Great Modern Short Stories (1942) with underlining throughout, a signed copy of Richard Nixon’s The Memoirs (1964) from Gerald Ford’s library. Gustav Klint’s Das Werk portfolio (1914) with plates personally selected by Klint, and an inscribed first edition copy of one of the books that inspired James Bond were also on display. Prices ranged from around $5,000 to $135,000.
