In Los Angeles, HBO Max marked the milestone anniversary of the groundbreaking, Emmy® Award-winning miniseries with an advance screening of the new Playtone documentary BAND OF BROTHERS: LEGACY, offering guests an exclusive first look ahead of its September 9 debut.
On Friday, it will be twenty-five years since September 11. That means that on Wednesday, today, it has been twenty-five years since BAND OF BROTHERS first brought the extraordinary story of Easy Company to television audiences. The two anniversaries are linked as in the wake of the terrorist attacks, the country found some solace in looking back at how we fought against the Nazi army during WW2 and the band of brotherhood that we formed.

The legacy of the ‘Greatest Generation,’ the amazing feats of the Easy Company, and the show itself remains as powerful as ever.
Tuesday night’s celebration honored the landmark television series, but even more than that, the evening served as a tribute to the veterans whose experiences inspired the story, as well as the generations who continue to carry their legacy forward.
The event brought together veterans and military guests from Fort Irwin U.S. Army Base, UCLA Navy ROTC, UCLA Air Force ROTC, UCLA Military ROTC, the National WWII Museum and USAA, alongside members of the production’s military community and cast members from the original series.
Among those in attendance were Neal McDonough, who portrayed 1st Lt. Lynn “Buck” Compton; Matthew Settle, who portrayed Capt. Ronald Speirs; Matthew Leitch as Floyd M. Talbert; Richard Speight Jr. as Warren H. Muck; Peter Youngblood Hills as Darrell C. Powers; Kirk Acevedo as Joe Toye; Eion Bailey as David Kenyon Webster; and Alex Sabga-Brady as Francis J. Mellett, among others.

Before the screening began, guests gathered for a cocktail reception surrounded by an evocative exhibition of authentic BAND OF BROTHERS memorabilia. The display offered a tangible connection to both the production and the history behind it, featuring archival costumes worn by Damian Lewis as Maj. Richard “Dick” Winters, Michael Cudlitz as Sgt. Denver “Bull” Randleman, Neal McDonough as 1st Lt. Lynn “Buck” Compton and Frank John Hughes as Staff Sgt. William “Wild Bill” Guarnere.
The original cast looked like they were having an absolute blast not only being together again — but truly to have the chance to be alongside veterans and military representatives.
Original props and rare photographs of the real Easy Company soldiers from World War II further transformed the space into a living reflection of the series’ extraordinary journey from historical record to television landmark.
A live string quartet performed iconic pieces from the original BAND OF BROTHERS score.
First premiering in 2001, BAND OF BROTHERS became a defining achievement in television, earning widespread critical acclaim and multiple Emmy® Awards while introducing audiences to the real-life soldiers of Easy Company, 506th Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. Its impact has endured for a quarter century, continuing to resonate with viewers and military communities alike.
BAND OF BROTHERS: LEGACY continues that mission, looking back at the series and the extraordinary real-world stories that shaped it while exploring why its legacy remains relevant 25 years later.
The documentary premieres September 9 on HBO and HBO Max, while the original HBO limited series BAND OF BROTHERS is available to stream now on HBO Max.
