Bacardi brought history, flavor, and connection together during an unforgettable night in Chicago. From handcrafted cocktails to meaningful stories, the experience captured the energy and culture behind one of the world’s most iconic rum brands.
Bacardi has shaped the world of rum for more than 160 years. The iconic brand began in Cuba in 1862 when Don Facundo Bacardí introduced a smoother and more refined spirit to the world. By isolating a proprietary strain of yeast and charcoal, filtering the rum. Don Facundo transformed how people experienced rum forever. Today, Bacardi stands as one of the most recognizable spirits companies in the world, with a portfolio of more than 200 brands. Its largest distillery, Casa Bacardi, now operates in Puerto Rico and continues the company’s incredible legacy.
During our evening with Bacardi, Darnell Holguin, the Bacardi National Ambassador, guided us through the rich history behind the brand. Holguin shared stories that brought Bacardi’s origins to life and made the experience feel personal and unforgettable. One of the most fascinating moments came when he explained the meaning behind Bacardi’s famous bat symbol.

In 1862, when Don Facundo opened his first distillery in Santiago de Cuba, his wife, Doña Amalia, discovered fruit bats hanging from the rafters. She chose the bat as the company’s symbol because both her Spanish heritage and Cuba’s indigenous Taíno people viewed bats as signs of health, unity, and good fortune. That story gave the logo an even deeper meaning and made the brand feel rooted in family and tradition.
Bacardi’s dedication to craft and refinement continued throughout dinner at Coquette, a stunning restaurant found in the West Loop neighborhood of Chicago. The meal felt elegant, lively, and full of flavor from start to finish. We enjoyed oysters, a refreshing salad with seared tuna, croquettes, chicken Wellington, steak, and silky pomme purée. Dessert brought rich cheesecake and tiramisu to the table.
Every course paired beautifully with Bacardi’s cocktails. The drinks celebrated timeless classics while adding a modern touch. We sipped refreshing mojitos, smooth old fashioneds, and crisp spritzes throughout the evening. Each cocktail highlighted Bacardi’s versatility and showed why the brand remains beloved across generations.
After dinner, the celebration continued at Kashmir Cocktail Bar and Music Lounge. The energy shifted the moment we arrived. Music filled the room, conversations grew louder, and excitement spread quickly through the crowd. Bacardi welcomed us with a bottle of Bacardi Superior White Rum, and the night instantly came alive.
As we shared drinks and stories, everyone connected over a love of food, cocktails, music, and Bacardi’s remarkable history. The evening created more than just a fun night out. It built a genuine sense of community among everyone in attendance. By the end of the night, Bacardi felt less like a brand and more like a shared experience rooted in culture, celebration, and connection. Bacardi set the perfect tone for Sueños Festival and the exciting weekend ahead.
