Thursday night at Metrograph on the Lower East Side, A24 celebrated the New York premiere of TUESDAY, a masterpiece film written and directed by Daina O. Pusić. Starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Lola Petticrew, TUESDAY takes on the fear of death, the anxiety of identity, the prevalence of humor in darkness, and the incredible pain often accompanying the deepest love.

Dreyfus, the avoidant mother of a terminally ill 15-year-old named Tuesday, is desperate to ignore the impending reality of a life without her daughter. Death (voiced by Arinzé Kene) appears at Tuesday’s side not as a scythe-wielding hooded figure, but as a speaking, size-shifting macaw. Tuesday asks Death for a chance to explain to her mother, whom she knows is not ready nor strong enough to say goodbye.

What unfolds before our eyes onscreen in TUESDAY is gut-wrenching in its rawness, absolutely stunning in its visuals, and full of humor down to the last moments, leaving audiences with the stinging and uncomfortable absoluteness of the certainty and the necessity of an end of every life.

The film is an absolute feat for A24, Dreyfus, Petticrew, and Pusić, making a smashing directorial debut with this stunning real-life fairytale.

TUESDAY is showing in select New York theaters on June 7 and in theaters nationwide on June 14.
