The Last of Us Season 1, Episode 4 Review

After last week’s phenomenal episode of The Last of Us, it follows up with a mediocre episode that I can call the “Joel and Ellie hate each other hour.”

However, the end of this week’s episode caught my interest as it ended on a cliffhanger as we got the on screen debut of Sam. Fans of the video game should know where this is going. But going back to Joel and Ellie, their on screen bickering back and forth is becoming tiresome to me and I am four episodes in the series. Yes, it was almost the same in the video game, but this is a different medium as these are human interactions.

We got a look of how FEDRA operates and run its enforcement and Kathleen is out there looking for Henry and interrogating anyone and everyone on his whereabouts. While she is to be taken seriously, I just had a Fear The Walking Dead vibe with her as I believe she will die within the next few episodes as there is no substance with what she is doing.

Besides the bickering back and forth, Joel does tell Ellie the story of meeting Tess and trying to be recruited to The Fireflies. And the set design of the bridge of abandoned cars also stood out as it really feels like nature is taking over. And a good plus one for that gas station shootout too.

The Last of Us is a great show, but that does not mean that it escapes criticism.  This episode did move some things forward, but the narrative and plot did not excite me this week.
