Yvonne Orji is returning to HBO with a new comedy special called Yvonne Orji: A Whole Me, premiering on October 1st.
Orji is back for her second special following her debut Momma, I Made It!, which released in 2020 with HBO. A Whole Me includes conversations about the current stages of Orji’s life and the current state she is in mentally. The special offers viewers a better understanding of her perspective on the pandemic, estate planning, being the child of Nigerian immigrants, the realities of dating, traveling alone, and more. One of the many things she discusses is her experience with therapy and the ways it has benefited her outlook. Each topic is balanced with comedic elements that create a space for digestible conversations and deeper understanding. The special incorporates scripted vignettes, which offer a visual depiction of scenarios mentioned throughout her stand-up.
The Knockturnal spoke with Orji about the special and what she hopes viewers take away from it. She also discusses the difference therapy has made for her despite the thoughts and opinions of those around her. A Whole Me allows the audience to connect with Orji and share in the moments of laughter, vulnerability, and hopefulness.
