Amazon kindly sent the Knockturnal the new Kindle Signature Paperwhite. We were excited to have it. Here are five reasons to get one for yourself.
(1) Books… Instantly. We live in amazing times. All the knowledge of the world is at your fingertips. As soon as I opened up my Kindle, I hopped on Amazon and bought a popular history book with one click. One click! That can be tempting. Whether it’s fiction, poetry, history, politics, or something else entirely, you don’t have to wait. Lay eyes on all the riches of the world’s literature right away.
(2) Read at Night. If you’re like me, you read at night to help you fall asleep. The new Kindle has a backlight that allows you to keep reading even when the lights go out (or should). (4) In-Device Access to the Amazon Store. I got a Kindle when it first came out many moons ago. My aunt dedicated it to me “from a Luddite to a former Luddite.” I told her I’d pursue wisdom no matter the means. Nevertheless, the means of placing books on my Kindle was not so easy then as it is today. I used to have to hook my Kindle up to the computer and pump the books in there through the cord. Now the Amazon store is right on the Kindle itself. I can visit the store whenever I’ve got my Kindle handy. It gives me recommendations of books I might like to add to my collection. I worried that the access to the internet would be distracting and a bore, but its not like that. The new Kindle has all the class of an old-fashioned book with the speed of the web.
(5) In-Book Features. The new Kindle has neat data for you as you read the book. In addition to letting you know the percentage of a book you have gotten through, the Kindle states what page of the book your are on out of how many and even predicts how many minutes it will take you to finish the chapter you are on. That way you may feel encouraged to finish the chapter before putting the book down until you read it again.
