Fans of the New York Times #1 best-selling book series, ‘Joe Pickett’ will be thrilled to know that the 22 series novel will be making its way to TV.
If you are unfamiliar, the series follows game warden Joe Pickett [Michael Dorman] and his family as they try to settle down in a rural, small town in Wyoming. Pickett tries to learn the ropes and take advice from the previous warden Vern Dunnegan [David Alan Grier] but quickly learns that everything and everyone might not be as they appear. When a murder victim winds up quite literally on his doorstep, a larger conspiracy looms and Pickett is caught in the middle. Now, without the support of local law enforcement Joe must decide between being a good father and family man and taking on the corruption of a whole city.
Long time actor, David Alan Grier known for his roles in Jumanji, Queen Sugar and many more has taken on the role of Vern Dunnegan. “He’s kind of shady, retired game warden in the middle of Wyoming. They said Wyoming, you know there ain’t no Black folks there,” Grier joked. Grier even questioned why he would be asked to take on this role and creators of the series, John Erick and Drew Dowdle claimed they were looking for an actor that can handle comedy. After that, Grier’s interest was piqued, “they wanted to throw the audience off and I was intrigued by that and how duplicitous this guy is,” Grier shared.
It has been a busy season for Grier as he also starred in Clifford the Big Red Dog which was released in early November. The comedic actor shared that he has been enjoying all his roles and finds pleasure seeing how he can put his own personal twist on each character he plays. The first three episodes of Joe Pickett will drop exclusively on Spectrum (available on-demand, free and without ads) on Monday, December 6. New episodes will continue dropping every Monday for the following three weeks until the finale on Monday, December 27. The series will also be available to stream on Paramount+ at a later date.
