Despite the Golden Globe Awards looking a bit different this year amid the coronavirus pandemic, the new Apple TV+ comedy series ‘Ted Lasso’ didn’t disappoint viewers at home.
The former ‘Saturday Night Live’ star Jason Sudeikis won Best Comedy Actor for the hit TV show that premiered in August 2020. Sudeikis accepted his award in a more casual look that had fans and the Twitterverse not only raving about the hilarious sitcom, but also his laidback tie-dye hoodie that’s now sold out online.
‘Ted Lasso’ is an uplifting series about an American football coach who travels to England and unexpectedly manages a professional soccer or ‘football’ team. The hilarious series is based on the pre-existing format and characters from NBC Sports’ short videos of the American coach.
‘The Knockturnal’ chatted exclusively with ‘Ted Lasso’ stars Brendan Hunt and Nick Mohammed to discuss the incredible win for the comedy series.
“It’s gratifying for the show to be recognized…I was very happy for my friend,” Brendan Hunt, who plays Coach Beard in ‘Ted Lasso,’ told ‘The Knockturnal.’
The Apple TV+ series has been successfully picked up for season 2. Nick Mohammed, who plays Nathan Shelley, the team’s kit man, says filming for the second season has been “amazing, so far.”
“We feel eternally lucky that we’re working during these troubled times with the pandemic,” Mohammed said. “What a treat to be kind of going back to ‘Ted Lasso’ knowing, I guess, how well the audience has reacted to it.”
Sudeikis has also been nominated for two Screen Actors Guild Awards. In addition, the Apple TV+ Original Series has received three nominations from the Writers Guild of America, and three Critics’ Choice Nominations including Best Comedy Series. ‘Ted Lasso’ was also the only comedy series named to AFI’s Top Television Programs of the Year.
‘Ted Lasso’ is available to stream on Apple TV+.
