Exclusive: M. Night Shyamalan, Lauren Ambrose, Toby Kebbell, Rupert Grint & Nell Tiger Free Talk ‘Servant’ [Video]

The highly anticipated AppleTV Plus original series SERVANT talks to The Knockturnal as they come back for Season 2.

SERVANT, an AppleTV Plus original, directed, and executive produced by the wildly talented M. Night (THE SIXTH SENSE) confirmed to The Knockturnal that Season 3 is confirmed and currently in the works. (Although season 2 is just now coming to air on Friday, January 15th, 2021!) The trailer, released in December, left audiences wanting answers to the questions they’ve had since the shocking ending of Season 1 when we come to find out that aside from the baby being a reborn doll named Jericho, the Turner’s nanny, Leanne Grayson (Nell Tiger Free) may not be quite who we think she is either. Dorothy and Sean Turner, played by Lauren Ambrose and Toby Kebbell, experience major character shifts as they embark on a new set of challenges in Season 2. Even Uncle Julian, played by Rupert Grint, goes down a rabbit hole attempting to protect Dorothy and the family, despite his vices of whiskey and gin. 

The suspense felt throughout the entire series, especially in the new episodes, had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I binged watched the seasons in their entirety over the span of two days because I just wanted to get answers to my many questions as I followed this enticing storyline. The characters are not only complex and layered but somehow still relatable. The message behind the idea that some women are willing to do “whatever it takes” in order to ‘save her baby’ hooks the audience immediately. *Spoiler Alert* I often questioned whether I should have empathy for Dorothy’s intense decisions once the episode 2:00 AM takes place but would justify her actions knowing she so desperately wants to be a mother. I found myself questioning who was the victim and who was the villain constantly throughout season 2.  I asked the cast their take on whether we should, in fact, continue to encourage Dorothy to “save her baby” or if her means to an end were simply unjustifiable. They each had a different take on the question but Lauren Ambrose says she “has to.”

“I get the script and I say oh my goodness how am I going to do this? How are we going to do this as a company?” said Ambrose when discussing the disturbing scenes she has to portray in Season 2. 

It’s no surprise Ambrose describes reading the scenes this way when learning what her character must do as lines are crossed and morals become blurred. The episodes in season 2 are shocking to say the least.

Nell Tiger Free opens up saying the last three episodes in season 2 were “really intense to shoot” and almost lets out a spoiler saying there’s big surprises and “even new characters.” 

The good news is, M. Night teased us saying that we might get the backstory to Leanne’s story in these upcoming episodes and says how his plan is to have 4 seasons for this story to unfold. 

Servant Season 2 comes to Apple TV+ January 15, 2021, and Season 3 has already been picked up and confirmed to be in the works by M. Night before the 2nd season got a chance to air! That’s how good this show is.
