Isaac Wright Jr. is the inspiration for the television series For Life.
With the conversation around the injustices of the justice system becoming a global and public one Isaacβs true life story is an inspiration for all. Isaac was wrongfully accused and convicted of a crime in the state of New Jersey-based on the stateβs drug kingpin laws. He was sentenced to a life sentence, however, while incarcerated he worked as a paralegal and helped to overturn the wrongful convictions of his fellow inmates while he himself was still incarcerated. He spent seven years in prison before proving his innocence in the court of law. After being released he earned his bachelorβs degree and later his JD. However, after passing the bar in 2008 he faced a nine year investigation by the New Jersey State Bar Association for application approval.Β
For Isaac, watching the show has been an opportunity for growth and has allowed him to increase his platform bringing more attention to his legal practice and his Mayoral campaign. Isaac has spent years and continues to fight against βlegal fictionβ and creating new law in order to reverse wrongful convictions. According to Isaac the law and the foundation of it is legal fiction (something that is not true but accepted as fact) which is why innocent people go prison. His story will give hope to the wrongfully accused while also teaching the general public about the realities of the legal system and framework.Β
Season two of For Life premiered in October, is executive produced by Isaac Wright Jr and 50, Aaron Wallace( played by Nicholas Pinnock and based on Isaac Wright Jr) sets out to not only free himself but free others. There is comfort in knowing that the show is not only inspirational but based on the life of Isaac Wright Jr and shows his journey not only to freedom but his mission to free others and challenge the systemic issues within the justice system.
