Exclusive: Henrock On His Evolution Within the Independent Circuit, Cash Grab Entertainment & the Single, ‘Drop That’

Pennsylvania-based songwriter and rapper Henrock continues his reign throughout the millennial independent-circuit with the club banger, “Drop That.”

The rapper is on a high since the release of his virally praised songs, “Money on Me,” and “Shake The City.” Henrock’s latest trap-tinged track and its kaleidoscope themed music video were released via Cash Grab Entertainment. The independent label has since been making moves with the song’s memorable auto-tuned hook.

“My single, “Drop That,” champions for a good time, and captivates listeners with its catchy lyrics and sublime audiovisual,” Henrock said. The Knockturnal connected with the on-the-rise MC to discuss life on the road, the “Drop That” WorldStarHipHop premiere, and how he intends to inspire listeners to turn up the volume on his music. Press play on the synthesized track and take a look at how Henrock is aiming to take on mainstream below.

The Knockturnal: Your fanbase is growing. How is this a testament to your musical style?

Henrock: Well, I make feel-good music. So, I want my music to give you a feeling no one else’s can. As an artist, I don’t sound like anyone I listen to. This is a testament to my dedication. I create a song in the moment. It is not about a generic formula. My art is based off a vibe! Sometimes the music is something I’ve been feeling heavy about and need to let go of.

The Knockturnal: You have an upbeat personality that translates well on camera. What is your mantra?

Henrock: Well, my personal mantra is never to let anyone tell you that you can’t do something. Nothing is impossible, because I had nothing before music. And by that, I mean nothing quite literally.

There was a time I stayed in the school gym after basketball practices because I didn’t want to go home. At the time, my house had no hot water, no heat, and ten people were sharing the bathroom. That situation makes me appreciate everything. I had the last of the last when it came to just about anything. Soon, I signed to Cash Grab Entertainment, and it has honestly changed my life for the better.

The Knockturnal: Your song “Money on Me” is approaching 43k streams on Spotify. What was your studio experience like recording the single?

Henrock: Wow! The studio session was epic. To be honest, I knew the minute my engineer, and I started recording, the single was going to be a Cash Grab Entertainment (CGE) hit. So, I could say it 100 times more; I’m used to nothing. After signing to CGE, I was ready to get what I felt was mine. There are things I have never had before. I’m always prepared to work for more. So, this is a celebration. This is a new lifestyle to me, and the world will soon get to know Cash Grab Entertainment.

The Knockturnal: Who do you look to as contemporaries?

Henrock: On my playlist, I have Lil Skies, Gunna, Lil Baby, and Logic. I say these guys because, as artists, they make a lot of music you can relate to. Additionally, I appreciate music that will get you on your feet with a vibe. They give off great energy on wax. Hip-hop doesn’t always have to be a bar for bar comparison to me. Yes, for me, it is not about who is the hottest out. It is all about how you make a person feel.

The Knockturnal: That is quite a list. Describe your sound.

Henrock: My sound is a vibe within itself. My sound musically is unique. I honestly don’t try to sound like anyone else. I aspire to be in a lane of my own. I tend to have fun in the booth and let my music speak for itself.

The Knockturnal: The “Drop That” music video is taking off after its WorldstarHipHop premiere. How does that feel?

Henrock: I’ve been waiting for this drop for months! I’ve been excited since the shoot. The feeling is unexplainable but in the right way! “Drop That,” was the first official banger in my catalog. We felt as though it deserved time to manifest into something bigger than what we imagined. The song is absolutely fulfilling the vision.

The Knockturnal: Who are your dream collaborators?

Henrock: I have a long list of people I want to collaborate with. My top picks are Ludacris, Travis Scott, Quavo, Mac Miller [posthumously], and Pharrell. I could go on for days. Honestly, I listened to a lot of Ludacris growing up.

My family is from the south and Ludacris has always brought that southern swag to the charts. He is a huge inspiration. The other four mentioned really match my vibe. They are brilliant. From time to time, I think about a question: If I was given a chance to create a dream project, who would it be? So, I say the answer would have to be one of the five listed, without a doubt.

The Knockturnal: What is on the way for your new listeners?

Henrock: I am excited to share a creative shift. So, my newest single will be titled “Nintendo.” That song is up next and scheduled to drop with a visual very soon! Stay tuned. I’m excited to see how the people react to the approach I took on this one. It is different. We’ve dropped two significant singles, along with visuals. I have way more in store.

The Knockturnal: Can you identify a motivating factor creatively?

Henrock: Oh, that is easy. I want to acknowledge my manager and my record label, Cash Grab Entertainment. Without them, none of this is possible. I thank them for all the love and help with my success thus far. A lot is not readily available to an artist without the help of a record label and management team. So, I am humble. For real, you can’t get anywhere without a team. I am fortunate; my team is fantastic! So, please stay tuned.

The play brings together Greta (Golden Globe nominee Marilu Henner), a longtime ACLU donor on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, and Tanner (Emmy nominee Shannon Purser), the young representative sent to secure a substantial contribution. While initially united by progressive values, their conversation quickly exposes a widening generational and ideological rift.

Henner and Purser deliver performances that keep an ideological debate grounded in recognizable human emotion.
