If you’re ever looking to spice up your marketing department, take a play out of the EspolΓ²n playbook and hire Deadpool.Β
There are some bold marketing departments doing great work in the field today, but last night,Β EspolΓ²nΒ blew them all out of the water with their partnership with Deadpool. The foul-mouthed masked hero hosted a screening of his new film,Β Deadpool 2, in Brooklyn, New York at the Alamo Drafthouse. Having been to dozens of screenings, you get the feeling that despite the location, type of movie, or time of year, it’s all the same. Red carpet, some celebrities, and a ton of marketing material.
Deadpool took this and spun it on it’s head. He managed to secure all the makings for a would be screening, but the moment I walked in and saw the numerous caution signs, the very hand made directional cues, and red carpet that was graced solely by cardboard cutout, I knew I was in for a ride. In proper Deadpool fashion, he got everything just a little wrong, just a touch comical, and entirely hilarious. For example, he was able to provide a red carpet as one would expect, but forgot to invite anyone to walk on or photograph it.
He got snacks for everyone, including popcorn labelled “Carbs with Butter” and assorted candy labelled “Candy, no Butter”. In addition to that, he made sure to make cinephiles at home by ensuring the walls were lined with classic movie posters, but with a cutoff of his face plastered on top of the star. The best part of all was when Deadpool expressed his inner Oprah and left a “special surprise” under everyone’s seat. What else could it be but a flask with Deadpool parodying the greatΒ EspolΓ²n logo. I wouldn’t expect anything less from the breakout character and enjoyed it even more for what it was.
Needless to say, the new Deadpool film was beyond hilarious. It was filled to the brim with genuinely funny jokes that took breaking the fourth wall to the farthest its ever been without alienating an audience. EspolΓ²n, being a wonderful Tequila company, supplied all the drinks for the evening with several carefully curated “Deadpool” favorites.
