The feature-length film by Amanda Lipitz is full of gems you cannot miss out on.

  1. Inside look at an inner-city school in Baltimore, MD.
    • The film gives an inside view of the values of the Baltimore Leadership School for Young Women. The film shows the inside of the school, as well as what goes on in terms of some programming and meetings with students and faculty members.
  2. Learn more about step culture.
    • Viewers get to learn more about step through the testimonies of the students and their coach. We see the girls prepare for competitions and all the thick and thin they endure to ensure that their routines are on point. There is more to step than just movement, it is all about the emotion and the power that the girls feel when they step.
  3. Highlights inter-personal relationships between women of color.
    • The film follows the story of 3 girls and their families. We learn more about their background and the huge impact that being on the step team has on their lives. The film highlights the relationships between the girls and their mothers, coach, and college counselor.
  4. Highlights the death of Freddie Gray.
    • The film starts with clips from the news about the death of Freddie Gray and even includes a scene with the girls speaking on his death and what it means to be a black woman. It was very touching and necessary.
  5. Gives a sense of Hope.
    • Senior year of high school is anything but easy. We get to see the girls through their best and worst on their journey to graduation and college.
