The late, great singer Princeโs legacy lives on through his symbolic and iconic color.
A standardized, custom hue of purple has been created to represent and honor the music legend. The new shade, aptly named โLove Symbol #2,โ is inspired by Princeโs custom-made, purple Yamada piano. The piano was supposed to join the artist on tour before his sudden passing at the age of 57. Princeโs Estate is currently in touch with various partners in regards to using the custom color on new products.
โThe color purple was synonymous with who Prince was and will always be,โ said Entertainment Advisor to Princeโs Estate Troy Carter. โThis is an incredible way for his legacy to live on forever.โ
Purple has been used in association with Prince since 1984 with the release of his album and subsequent Academy Award-winning film of the same name, Purple Rain. In addition to winning an Oscar, Prince had taken home countless accolades over the years including seven Grammy Awards and a Golden Globe Award for Purple Rain alone. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.
โA musical icon known for his artistic brilliance, Love Symbol #2 is emblematic of Princeโs distinctive style,โ said Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute Laurie Pressman. โLong associated with the purple family, Love Symbol #2 enables Princeโs unique purple shade to be consistently replicated and maintain the same iconic status as the man himself.โ
