Living in New York has made me realize how incredible it is to live in a city where every single weekend (and I mean every single weekend) amazing artists come to give performances of a lifetime. The city hosts an incredible amount of events for all tastes in music, and of course EDM events do not fall behind. On Friday the 10th, Brooklyn was the witness of one of the most sought-out electronic music events: 10 Year Diynamic, hosted by Diynamic Record Label and Teksupport.
If you are a techno and house fanatic, then you must have heard of this label. If you are in fact familiar, then you must know the unbelievable amount of talent they cultivate. It was founded in Hamburg by Adriano Trolio and 3 time DJ Awards winner Solomun. They have specialized in the underground electronic music scene and have collected worldwide talent. They say a team is as strong as its weakest link; in the case of Diynamic Record, every single person in the roaster is stellar. To celebrate 10 years of coming together and creating incredible music, they decided to tour around the globe hitting major cities such as Berlin, Amsterdam, London, Hamburg, LA, Miami and of course our own NY.
To celebrate an event of such magnitude, you need a place that can hold thousands yet still give that underground vibe, and what better place to do this than an abandoned warehouse in Brooklyn. The attendees were about to embark on a 12 hour journey that entailed delicious tunes, dance moves, lights, drops, and just pure ecstasy. Tal Ohana opened up the evening as the local warm up at 9 PM with a great set that lasted an hour. Magdalena took over the stage from 10 to 12:30PM.

Magdalena has been with Diynamic Records from the beginning, but did not start out as an artist. She used to run the label’s club in Hamburg “EGO”. Not only did her love for music get fonder in the years she worked there, but her desire to want to play and produce for herself grew. She decided to try it out and started playing small gigs/ morning sets. It did not take a long time for people to recognize her talent and so her level of recognition begin to grow. The tools that she picked up while being behind the scenes clearly show in her artistry. Magdalena knew how to guide the attendees into the fun of the party little by little. As time progressed, the tunes morphed from melodic to a more felt beat. One could see the place filling up little by little. As every person joined the dance floor, the energy of the room grew higher and higher.

Next up was amazing Stimming, who performed a live set lasting from 12:30 PM to 1:30 AM. In this day and age, it is unusual to come across an artist that brings their own spin and mark to music. Stimming, however, has defied our notion of house music. From age 10, this talented DJ and producer was already familiar with the violin, piano, and drums; musical influences that one can hear in all of his music. This incredible artists has also been with the label from the beginning and has been releasing music ever since. I like to compare him to a gourmet chef. There are flavors that one would think would not go well together, but once he mixes them up you realize they are the perfect combination for a delicious platter. His most recent and fourth album, “Alpe Lusia” is a clear example of this. Getting his inspiration from a secluded alpine in northern Italy, Stimming mixes sounds, instruments, and culture into house music, giving it an extremely pleasing and unique sound. His set, of course, included many of his original tracks. These mixes are what made people fall in love with his musical genius and what pumped the audience to dance like nobody’s watching. Stimming fed his fans with beats that ran through their bodies and delivered smiles all around.
From 1:30 to 2:30 AM came the diynamic duo Kollektiv Turmstrasse (see what I did there). These two absolutely killed it with their ‘ts’ and ‘booms’. The two met back in 1988 and have been became a power duo in the techno/house world. All it took was for them to create a joint studio in 2000 to make magic happen. It’s always great to watch two people who have such great chemistry coming together and projecting that energy into the audience. Their passion for the craft was so visible and their talent to read the crowd was spot on. Not only did their selection of music allow one to let go of any worry and dance, but it spoke to the body, creating a sense of euphoria. It was not unusual to see attendees turning around to their friends in look of unbelief from the music and drops that were being fed to us. What I love about their music is that it can serve both to have a relaxed evening at home or provide incredible beats that will make you want to party for a whole day. Their vast but polished taste is visible both in their productions as well as their performances. Their set was truly memorable and left us fans very satisfied. Now that the warehouse was starting to get filled up, we could feel everyone feeding off each other’s energy in celebration of music. As the warmth of our joy filled up the space from floor to ceiling, we opened our arms to receive another fantastic duo, Adriatique. Looking around the audience, I was very happy to see that the crowd was made up with people from all ages. As young as 21 year olds going up to 70 year old ravers! Married couples came to this event with their friends and befriended those around them, bonding over their love for the music and the performing artists. It was an incredible atmosphere that combined with Adriatique’s amazing tunes made one want to live in this moment and space forever. These Zurich based artists are renowned and have played around the world on multiple occasions. We can already see the compatibility of these two just by looking at their names, Adrian Shala and Adrian Schweizer. They are a nice example of a ying and yang duo, a perfect balance for an incredible musical outcome. The American and Detroit techno upbringing of one combined with the European electronic music knowledge of the other result in their unique and remarkable sound. They are great team, balancing each other out in preference for the booth and the studio. Because of their distinct fortes, they have been able to learn from each other, creating a dream team and perfectioning both their crafts and DJs as well as producers. Ever since their first meeting in 2008, Adriatique has developed a niche and an incredible following, whom were definitely present in Brooklyn this night. The support and cheer from the fans were well gained with their incredibly well drafted set. Their reading of the energy and the need of the spectators gave them the opportunity to feed them what they wanted, pleasuring their ears and sending chills down their spine here and there. Every second of this two hour set was well enjoyed but it was time for the next act to come on. Experience a snipet of their amazing set: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UD3hqKtRpY
The man. The myth. The legend. At 4:30 AM Hamburg’s finest, Solomun, assumed his regal position on the platform, the crowd was reminded precisely why they make it out to grime techno warehouse parties in the first place. The founder of the Diynamic label – who also has a longstanding residency in Ibiza – prepared a transcendental mix that absolutely nobody was ready for. His sets always bring something new to the table, notably pushing conventional electronic boundaries beyond expectations. It’s no surprise that he’s continuously recognized as having one of the biggest influences on the modern house scene. For the next three hours, Solomun seamlessly blended together a mix consisting of endless variations of techno and house. The versatility in his set was definitely noteworthy. Seldom do I come across a DJ who can incite feelings of nostalgia for a time during which I wasn’t alive, but the magical bearded man has a talent. By incorporating elements from the 80s dance scene with the groove of modern techno he gave me a serious case of dance-fever. Despite the fact that the 3,000 people who were in attendance couldn’t stop moving to the rhythm of the music, the one who seemed to be enjoying it the most was Solomun himself. To him, producing music and touring the world is not to gain the perks that come with being an internationally renowned DJ. The passion in his delivery proved that he truly loves what he does and – beyond that – sharing it with us. He once said “music is moments”, and that couldn’t have been clearer after seeing how much respect he has for the craft. Because his sets can’t go unheard, here is a clip from his set at Tomorrowland from earlier this year:
Last but not least was the one and only Karmon who came on at 7:30 AM. This multi-talented artist started out playing the drums, which later helped build his sound as a producer. We became familiar with electronic music in 2003 but it was not until 2012 that he decided to give the DJ and producer life a go, I think most can agree that it was the absolute right choice. There are some artists that are impeccable performers and work the booth like a high-fashion model works a runway but their tracks might not get to the level of their mixes. Karmon is the whole package, he delivers incredible tracks as well as incredible sets. As we dived into the music industry, he began to develop a minimalistic sound, one that makes you bump to their rhythm, sway from side to side and shuffle with passion. With three-quarters of the attendees still standing, Karmon delivered each song with care, crafting an incredible path to take all the energy with which he was received and carry it until the closing time, 9 AM.
The talent and uniqueness of each individual make up this top-notch label. The fact that so many of these artists were under one roof playing one after the other was truly a gift for any electronic music lover. Teksupport promised a great party and did nothing but meet our expectations. Although it did get crowded at one point, it was only due to the desire of us fans wanting to see these house and techno revolutionaries. I am sure this was a night that many will carry with them forever.
