Works and Process at the Guggenheim presents โPeter & the Wolfโ with Isaac Mizrahi, Dec. 2-10, 2017.
UES dwellers will be seeing a lot preschoolers file in and out of the Guggenheim this week, with the magic of childrenโs classic, Peter & the Wolf, in full swing. Brooklyn born fashion designer and TV presenter Isaac Mizrahi directs, designs, and narrates Sergei Prokofievโs 1936 musical fairy tale, Peter & the Wolf. The production is the collaborative result of Mizrahi, who has directed numerous theatrical productions and operas; Choreographer John Heginbotham; Conductor and Composer Brad Lubman; and Ensemble Signal.
The 30-minute story illustrates Peterโs colorful encounters with a bird, a duck, a cat, a wolf, and a hunterโeach character represented by an instrument. The lighthearted performance is a delight to both children and adults. While Peter & the Woolfย is of course, a children’s play,ย Mizrahi humors the parents with a theatrical self-awareness, constantly bringing into attention the pseudo-reality that is being reproduced on a stage.
