A luxurious and decadent expression that every whiskey lover should try
Woodford Reserve has been one of the biggest whiskey household names in the industry. Their commitment to quality whiskey making while constantly expanding their portfolio makes them one of the most versatile distributors of whiskey. And this past month, Woodford Reserve released one of their most sought after expressions, the Double Double Oaked. This expression is infamous amongst whiskey lovers where fans have even camped out overnight at the Woodford Reserve Distillery in Versailles, Kentucky in order to purchase this bottle.
So in true New York and fashion week style, Woodford Reserve partnered with acclaimed fashion designer Sergio Hudson to host an extravagant event leveraging Hudson’s chic style and point of view to highlight their delicious whiskey. The event was hosted at Studio 525 where Woodford Reserve and Sergio Hudson collaborated to showcase the Double Double Oaked Expression. And at this event, guests were able to try craft Woodford Reserve cocktails while walking a lux red carpet, mingle with other guests and influencers, listen to music by DJ Angel & Dren, and even try Woodford Reserve’s private tasting experience of the Double Double Oaked.
What makes this expression unique is that this double-barreled bourbon rests for multiple years inside two different barrels, which helps concentrate the flavors of the oak into this whiskey. In the first barrel it is aged roughly 5-7 years and then transferred to a second, heavily toasted and lightly charred new oak barrel where it is aged for an additional two more years. On the nose it has a heavy scent of oak paired with luscious baking spices and warm vanilla notes. And the first sip is a powerful oak forward note that is then accompanied by spices like clove, cinnamon, and more. The lasting impression of this whiskey is that it has a lovely oakiness throughout that gives it a decadent quality that is meant to be enjoyed neat or on the rocks.
