Summer is approaching, the longer days and gradual heat are a reminder to grab SPF 50 sunscreen ASAP. While you should’ve been wearing sunscreen year-round, feeling the sun on your skin immediately refreshes your memory; you just can’t go through last summers sun-burn again. You head over to your nearest Walgreens, walk through the automatic doors, and find yourself somewhere in the middle tropics. With a margarita in one hand and Walgreens SPF 50 in the other, you’re all set for summer. On June 11th Walgreens hosted influencers and bloggers at the Milk Studios penthouse for their “Behind The Surface” skincare event. The tropical-themed event with goodies, drinks, and insta-worthy photo-ops reminded guests about the importance of SPF in our summer skincare routines. The “Beneath, The Surface” beauty, and skincare event were more than just a sunscreen PSA. Trays of Walgreens sun-glasses and SPF sunscreen welcomed guests. Indoors, renowned Parisian photographer Pierre-Louis Ferrer took UV portraits to help guests see how the sun has affected their skin. Walgreens beauty specialists were also on-site for advice on how to transition into summer skincare routines. While waiting to be photographed by Ferrer or get some quick tips from specialists, guests enjoyed the Walgreens oasis on the outside deck. Specialty drinks like Blue Margaritas garnished with shark candies, and Watermelon Mojitos were in the hands of almost everyone in attendance.
The “Behind The Surface” event was a fun way to kick off the summer; however, the importance of sunscreen was the main focus. Special guest Dr. Rachel Nazarian, NYC Dermatologist, who diagnoses and treats skin cancer among her many works, is a significant part of #saveyourskin by Walgreens. Having your skin checked annually by a Board-certified Dermatologist MD is one of Dr. Nazarian’s tips on protecting your skin. Dr. Nazarian also shed light on the false notion the sunscreen is harmful”…. some ingredients like avobenzone or oxybenzone can be more irritating if you have sensitive skin or more allergies, but are still quite safe.”
After the fantastic and informative event, guests were given totes filled with new Walgreens skincare products and yes, more sunscreen. Who would’ve thought Walgreens knew had to throw a party.
