Visit North Carolina held a knockout event to introduce the very best that the state has to offer.

The event started with a lesson from the studio to get guests into “NC’s Fighting Spirit.” After the private boxing session, which was partially inspired by the film “Christy,” which was filmed in the state. One of the biggest productions filmed in the region this year was released last week and stars Sydney Sweeney, Ben Foster, and Merritt Wever. As shared at the event, “Christy” is just one of many events that have had a production in the great state for a variety of reasons.

North Carolina is world-renowned as a film-friendly state with minimal permitting and ready assistance throughout your production. The Film Office serves as an ideal liaison with public and private interests as you work to secure locations and services for your production. Working in tandem with our regional film commissions, they help you cut through the red tape on state, county, and local levels. The North Carolina Film Office strives to accommodate and expedite your production schedule.

One particular place of interest for filming is Wilmington.  In four decades as a film hub and with over 400 credits to its name, the coastal city has portrayed Capeside, Tree Hill, Cousins Beach, and the Outer Banks. With the new Amazon Prime show “The Runarounds” from “Outer Banks” creator Jonas Pate, Wilmington now earns credit for playing itself. One can even dine at star favorites (Seabird, Olivero, Manna), explore attractions seen on screen (Airlie Gardens, Jungle Rapids, Crystal Pier), and simply enjoy sites along the Riverwalk, music and nightlife, and lively neighborhoods.

A variety of reasons like these and more across the state make it ideal for so much joyous discovery. From natural landscapes, historical landmarks, and artistic vibes, there are just dozens of things that attract film companies to shoot in North Carolina.

It’s the same great reasons that have tourism drawing in record-breaking numbers. Exquisite adventures await the person who comes for a visit. You come for fun and you leave with the memory of a grand adventure to last a lifetime.

Here are some of the highlights of North Carolina that take the traveler to glorious new heights that are worthy of the screenplay of your life.

  • Jackson County → A mountain escape in western North Carolina, home to part of the Blue Ridge Parkway and some of the state’s best fly-fishing.

  • Haywood County → Nestled in the Smokies, it’s known for charming small towns, elk sightings, and easy access to Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

  • Halifax County → A history-rich area in northeastern NC where North Carolina’s independence was first declared in 1776.

  • New Bern → Founded by revolutionaries and fizzing with invention (hi, Pepsi), New Bern pairs colonial courage with riverfront charm and cultural depth.

  • Crystal Coast → Don’t let the calm waters fool you—this stretch of “North Carolina’s Southern Outer Banks” is all edge-of-the-map adventure and coastal toughness.

  • Wilmington & Beaches → From screen legends to surf breaks, Wilmington punches above its weight with a film legacy, historic grit, and seriously cinematic cool.
