Art Basel brought the shade with the creation of a limited-edition prints from Vintage Frames Company and artist Trevor “Trouble” Andrew.

Vintage Frames Company and artist Trevor “Trouble” Andrew a.k.a. Gucci Ghost collaborated on a series of limited edition prints that were exclusively available during Art Basel Miami. The frames company is the premier designer vintage eyewear experts and designer eyewear brand. The numbered prints were paired with a special-edition sunglass and case that were inspired by the artwork and retailed for $1,000.

The inspiration came from the Vintage Frames Company’s 1980 Miami Vice retail concept and came to life when Creative Director and CEO Corey Shapiro enlisted the talents of gallery artist and friend, Trevor Andrew. They wanted to explore a different medium for this debut collab, as Andrew loves to experiment and find new ways to express himself and create a language through images. His influences stem from pop culture, golden age comic books, cartoons and punk aesthetics. Much of his work explores commercialism, and satirically appropriating brand identity by dismantling iconic images & logos, stripping them down & presenting them in a raw form.

With the purchase of one of 50 limited edition prints Andrew created based on his “Dirty Cig Series,” customers received a pair of matching sunglasses. The packaging for the frames mimicked a cigarette box, which featured the artwork from the limited-edition prints. Encased in the “pack” of cigarettes, both pairs of sunglasses utilized cigarettes as the arms of the frame – expressing the irony that cigarettes were fashionable in the ‘80s and ‘90s regardless of if you were a smoker or not.  Alongside the collaboration, the brand debuted some of their best-selling namesake lines and a hand-curated exhibit of rare vintage sunglasses from its archive for purchase, with some valued at $25,000 USD.

Two years in the making, the duo was ecstatic to present the collaboration. To celebrate, an event took place at the flagship store where they invited guests which included favorite rappers and celebs to a launch party at the Vintage Frames Company’s Miami Flagship Store, located at the Goodtime Hotel. Guests were treated to a flow of tequila, fire beats from Sirius XM’s Shade 45 and of course got to shop and enjoy the collaborative sunglasses.

Celebrities and VIP invitees such as Noreaga, CeeLo Green, Tyga, Foodgod, Jen Selter, Alexander “AE” Edwards, Steiny, Bobbi Althoff, Eric the Jeweler, who celebrated the grand opening of Mavani Jewelers at the Goodtime Hotel, Fat Nick, Kenny Burns, HXLT, Statik Selektah, Miss Me, Mr. Miami, Weslye Saunders and more enjoyed cocktails throughout the night provided by PATRÓN EL ALTO, the exclusive spirits sponsor of the night, with some PATRÓN EL ALTO bottles customized by Gucci Ghost himself displayed throughout. Sirius XM Radio’s Shade 45 Statik Selektah Showoff Radio Show kept the music bumping throughout the evening and broadcasted live for the first time as well.
