When I joined YouNow a couple of month ago, I didn’t think I was going to attend VidCon.
In fact, I didn’t even know what VidCon was. After meeting other broadcasters on the app/ website, I was constantly being encouraged to go. At the time, I wasn’t sure I would be making the right decision because I had tickets for a Nicki Minaj concert here in New York that I would have had to miss if I were to attend VidCon. Now looking back at it, and even being a huge Nicki Minaj fan, I’m so happy I went. The first day, my friend Tay aka “Mr. Cashier” and I met at the LAX airport. We rented a car and headed to Anaheim where we got settled into our hotel. We later went down to the Anaheim Convention Center to register and pick up our passes. Tay had an industry pass and I had a creator pass along with a press pass. That evening, we spent time around the area and met so many familiar faces from social media in person, for the first time. Everyone just seemed to vibe really well, we sang together, took selfies and of course we broadcasted on YouNow! We were all just super excited to get to know each other while spending the next few days together at VidCon.
In the following days there were scheduled seminars, meet and greets, live performances and more. It was amazing to see fans getting to chance to meet and hang out with their favorite YouNowers, Youtubers, Viners etc. in a calm, friendly environment. Even I was recognized from YouNow and asked for a selfie by a few amazing supporters. There were games set up such as human bowling which I’m so mad I didn’t get a chance to do. There were also food trucks outside. One had some really good pizza which reminded me of New York! Another truck had the best grilled cheese sandwich I ever had.
VidCon was very organized and the staff there were all helpful and professional. This is only the 6th annual convention and it was the experience of a lifetime. When it came to the last moments, having to say our goodbyes was emotional but we all knew that we would definitely be coming again next year for the 7th Annual VidCon! I would like to shout out a few of my fellow YouNowers: Tayser aka Mr. Cashier, Brittany J.Smith, Hannah Stone, Tyler Heath, Allen Sarinana, Danny aka ArbitraryVlog, Antigoni, Marite aka Snowmarite, Jared Tousely aka Flippinginja, Cole Galotti, Zach Clayton, Nick Bean, Edwin Burgos, Melanie Sunga, Heather, and also members of the YouNow staff: Dan, Adi, Candace, Gemma and Matt! I know I may be forgetting so many more amazing people but I miss and love you all and I can’t wait to see you next year!
